Yes --if you want to do serious damage even have a fire. The fuse is there to protect equipment and wiring. Better to fix the short that is blowing the fuse

Buy a new cylinder, put old chip key in cylinder, now plug into the connecter and hide under dash. Start car with with second or duiplicate key. Or measure the resistance in chip on key and get a resistor from radio shack and connect it to wire that plugs in to lock cylinder

SOURCE: car cranked for about 5

I would check the connections at the battery for the pos. and neg. posts or side posts. If it cranked, then it should keep on cranking for more than 5 sec if the connections are good and the battery is fully charged.

There are fusible links, but they generally won't blow because of cranking.

Good luck on this repair.

Can I bypass the 175 amp fusable link for the alt on a 2010 ford focus? The link I believe is contained in the wire running from starter to alternator I think. Can anyone verify this for me.

NO you can't. if you do you will set your car on fire. 175 amp is a lot of power to be putting on a non fusible wire. A fire would be a surety . Just go to a real auto store or order a link from rock auto find the splice point and put it in. I know they are very expensive but what you gonna do. There are mega fuse Kits but you need skill , room and the remaining wire may be too short.

Bypass fusible link from alternator to battery buick lesabre

You can....but the fusible link is there to prevent a catastrophic failure in case of high current draw or dead short. If your fusible link melted, you have other issues to deal with first. If you already know what it was and fixed it, fusible links can be purchased at auto parts stores and installed in the same amount of time you would take to perform the bypass. The couple dollars saved bypassing it are not really worth the fire risk if something should occur.

Reversed jumper cables, blown fusible link?

Turn the key to run, truck in park, and jump the starter from the small wire to the large wire on the starter solinoid. If it starts, all is good and your fussible link is probably right. The fusable links are located in the engine compartment, under a cover on the firewall.

Hello! It sounds like you may have a fusible link issue. If you follow the wire from the alternator down to the starter (which would be the larger of the wires attached to it); near the end you will find the fusible link. If this is blown - your alternator will not charge the battery.

Hope this helps and good luck! Thanks for using FixYa!

There should be two small 8mm bolts holding the fusible link by the sides...don't pull the fusible link before unscrewing the 2 bolts as they will damage the holder.
