1992 Mercury Grand Marquis - The odometer stopped working. The problem was traced to the instrument panel. The dealer will only replace the whole instrument panel except they can't get one for that car. Where can I get a panel? What are the steps to remove and replace the panel? Or can I repair the odometer? Thanks!

Look online . There are different companies that sell the parts to replace the gears.

There are two plastic gears that drive the odometers from two small electric motors (one for resettable and one for total) and they wear out. I found them on the web for approx. $70 (for $0.50 worth of parts !), but they did fix the problem. You will need to remove the instrument panel and disassemble the odometers, but it's not too difficult.

This is electronic and is either the sending unit from the trans mission, unlikely since the cruise works, or a burned circuit in the instrument cluster for the Speedometer and Odometer. Double check your connections to make sure they haven't come apart somehow but you may want to have a shop look at this and isolate the problem.

The only fix is to replace the speedo head. I had a 92 crown vic (same as marquis) and the speeometer shop could not repair it. So, i had to replace it. They give you a sticker to write the present mileage down for reference,and afix it to the drivers door jam.
