The high pitched whine in reverse sounds normal for a honda. Ever honda I have had makes a similar noise while in reverse. The spinning, scraping noise in drive is not normal. You might want to see a mechanic about that.

I wonder if you have a fan belt that is screeching? They get glazed over and eventually wear out and make a high whine and screeching noise. This might...be what it is
Have you checked the transmission fluid? I believe the problem is within the transmission, because it wont go
into gear. A whining noise, or high pitch noise, can be caused by low transmission fluid, which allows air to get in the transmission lines, or it could be a bad transmission pump. This is for a automatic transmission, since it is what I believe that you have in your car.
have your ear brakes checked and or replaced. Possible worn pads. There is a worn indicator on the pad that scrapes the rotor when your brakes are worn. If they arent worn, have them inspected!!hopefully this helps!!
Providing there are no oil leaks at all, some transmission stabilizer may help. Any experience i've had with a whining 5 speed, is not good. Usually it's a bearing on it's way out. Try some of this, and see if it makes any difference.

Hi there. When reverse is
engaged and drive taken-up, the engine torques in a new direction and if you
look under the bonnet of your Honda you will see many vacuum pipes and hoses.
My bet is that one of these has an air leak which when reversing opens-up and
gives you that sound you're hearing. So first thing to do is undertake a
detailed check of each and every one of those vacuum hoses - you should be
looking for cracking or any dislodgement. Hope this helps, Scottech
There is a little beeper that sits just behind the front grill close to the Subaru emblem. It makes the sound you hear when you press the remote to lock or unlock the doors. It sometimes whines for a while but eventually stops. I have had this for a couple of years and it does not appear to have caused any problems.
