Failed inspection due to codes P0336 and P0442

I just took my car (oldmobile ninety-ehgty 1996) through inspection. It failed. My engine light came. My paperwork has two codes that has to deal with the problem. Could you tell me what they mean and what I have to get fixed. P0336 and P0442 Thanks.

PO336 IS THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WHICH SHOULD BE THE ANSWER TO PASSING INSPECTION SINCE IT IS A PERFORMANCE ISSUE. IT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR FUEL INJECTION AND SPARK PULSE. REPLACING IT SHOULD HELP TO REDUCE EMISSIONS. AND THE SECOND CODE IS AN EVAP LEAK,SMALL. HOPE THIS HELPS. LET ME KNOW. BEST OF LUCK

405 is egr failing, can be hard to clean and fix it.

336 is crankshaft position sensor= CKP
causes are CKP bad, or wires to it a mess
or bad cam drive bad chain,or its guide or both mostly.
or yes below.(rare to fail ever)

yes the harmonic balancer does have
the CKP tone wheel inside.
if it looks ok is is ok, no bends there.

What is the code po442 and po445 mean on the car

P0442 code means that the control module has detected a small leak in the Evaporative Emission (EVAP). The loose fuel tank filler cap is the most common cause that triggers the P0442 code.

Code P0445 indicates that there is improper purge flow in the EVAP system caused by a shorted purge valve.

Make sure Fuel tank cap is tightened well, then have it tested at Autozone, etc... If ok, then go back to inspection station.

2000 sunfire has p0336, p0340, p0130, where to

p0130 is an oxygen sensor code.
p0340 is your camshaft position sensor code
p0336 is your crankshaft position sensor code

as far as the p0130 code those usually are what i call neglected sensors that do not get replaced when they should be. this sensor is expensive but worth the money as it will help on fuel mileage.

on to the camshaft position sensor, i would start here with this. replace that sensor and when you are replacing it, inspect the sensor and make sure the electrical wires going into it are in good shape. after replacing those 2 sensors, go to a parts store who can erase your codes to turn the light off and then let us know if it comes back on and then we will go from there on the repair.

P0336 Code

The code P0336 is crank shaft sensor performance code. The sensor could be faulty and not picking up a good signal. The after erasing the code, the problem still exists ,so it is then a pending code and when you shut the car off and restart it the code reappears.Just another idea here ,if you have not had a tune-up recently(plugs, wires, airfilter, etc.)you could get unwanted codes and your engine will not perform as it should. This could cause poor gas mileage as well.John.

My taurus failed due to code p0442 ecap emiss ctl sys leak detected (small leak)

Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0442 indicates that a fuel vapor leak has been detected [as small as 0.10 cm (0.04 inch)] in the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system.
Note: Prior to performing the following diagnosis inspect the Canister Vent Solenoid (CV) for contamination. A situation may exist where contamination holds open the Canister Vent (CV) solenoid enough to set DTC P0442 and also plugs the port to atmosphere enough to keep system from being vented quickly.
    • After market parts and accessories nonconforming to the EVAP system specifications.
    • Damaged, cross threaded or loosely installed fuel filler cap.
    • Small holes or cuts in fuel vapor hoses/tubes (EVAP canister tube, EVAP canister outlet tube or EVAP return tube) in the EVAP system.
    • Loose fuel vapor hose/tube connections to EVAP system components.
    • EVAP system component [EVAP canister purge valve, fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor, canister vent (CV) solenoid, fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly] seals leaking.
    • CV solenoid partially open when commanded closed.
    • EVAP canister leaking.
  • Check for presence of fuel filler cap.
  • Verify that the CV solenoid is properly seated on the EVAP canister (if possible).
  • Visually inspect for cut or loose connections to fuel vapor hoses/tubes in following locations:
    • EVAP canister to EVAP canister purge valve.
    • EVAP canister to fuel vapor vent valve assembly.
    • fuel vapor control valve tube assembly to fuel tank (if applicable).
