Did you check the Vacuum lines to the Secondary air Valve Controls. They may be rotten. Can you do a Smoke test. Replace dry rotted lines with either 3/16 Fuel or Power Steering Hoses if you do not get ORM Vacuum lines/hoses. There are many Vedios on You Tube showing this specific problem solving on German cars. you can check out these,

Hi, i just bought a 2003 a4 convertible 3.0 from a audi dealership. when it took possession, it didn't have an owners manual so i was playing with the climate control and somehow must've changed some...

code p 0368 refers to a camshaft position sensor B bank 1 -- circuit high===causes wiring short to positive --CMP sensor--ECM
code p 0492 refers to secondary air injection system bank 2---malfunction===causes wiring---AIR solenoid ---hose connections ---mechanical fault
playing with a climate control setting will not affect those codes so I suspect that you are being given the old run around
find yourself an accredited professional service center that has experience on your make of car and get a proper diagnosis and quote or if you have any sort of used car warranty , take it back and don't let them fool you again as you now have the codes facts

I'm not sure if you fixed your problem yet but I had some similar gremlins on my 2001 540. Just a word of advice. Ensure that the tube from the air pump to the manifold is clear. This can occasionally get blocked and this is what causes the air pump to over heat and fail in the first place. after replacing a couple of air pumps, I learned this the hard way.
