When the rpms go up noise goes away however as soon as I slow down to a stop the ticking noice comes back louder . Any thoughts ?

Change the oil and add an additive to it.

SOURCE: noise in transfer case or front differential

i had the same problem.. it is the vacuum switch on the transfer case. the switch is stuck open and supplying vacuum to the vacuum diaphram under the battery box. the switch is located on the upper side of the transfer case ( not the front differential) which is located driver side of the transmission. the switch cost me about $25.00. I replaced it myself. if you do your own mechanical work you can get it done just be patient.

SOURCE: change alternator on 2003 chevy impala

here is a trick. While it is running, use a yardstick or wooden broom hande, and place it on the casting of the alternator or object you suspect is growling. You can hear the bad bearing amplified through the wood if you put your ear to it. It is a great way to pin point bad bearing noise

SOURCE: There is a loud noise at 45mph.

Find a quiet empty stretch of road. Go 50 mph, put the trans in NEUTRAL and shut the engine. If noise is still there, swing car left and right to detect noise differences. Could be hub or axle bearings. Not engine or trans if noise is still there. Hope this helps

Under my 2004 dodge grand caravan hood near the tire we hear a ticking noise which goes faster as we drive. Slows down when we slow down. What could it be?

Could be engine related or driveline related. Do you only hear the noise when the car is driving down the road? Or does it also
happen when the engine is running and the vehicle is in park?

My 2007 Chevy Impala SS after sitting overnight has a ticking noise in the engine but will go away after driving it. It has 33000 miles on it.

Sounds like lifters are draining down over night. Common reason would be too thin of viscosity oil. Sometimes synthetics do this and they say it's normal. Try changing to a heavier weight oil.

I have a 2006 Chevy Impala LT 3.5 L, and if I drive the car, the fan under the hood remains on, even after the car has been shut off and the key has been taken out. It stays on for about 2 minutes, then...

It's suppose to. The fan will continue to run after the car is shut down to cool the radiator down before a timer shuts off the fan. I also own an '06 Impala LT with 69000 miles, and the coolant has been "disappearing" Since there isn't any excess water coming from the tailpipe, I'm figuring it's the water pump, due to the noises it makes (think marbles in a beer can). Be safe and check you coolant level. Hope this helps you!

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala. I ran my car with no oil and now I'm hearing a loud ticking/knocking noise coming from under my valve cover. I added 2 bottles of oil after finding out that I didnt have any...

might be the valves have been damaged running without oil
- or the crankshaft / camshaft / main bearings
most probably you have to let the engine be rebuilt by a mechanic
(expect cost of more than US$ 2.000)
or get another (used) engine at a scrapyard 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-0.jpg 2003-chevy-wutfveiel3ypko01ydor435x-5-2.jpg

I have a 2005 dodge neon sxt, in the morning when I start it up I hear a loud knocking noise from the engine but after about 15 seconds it gets softer but is still there all day when I'm driving around.

It is probably your lifters sticking. Check your engine oil level and if thats fine, then add some oil detergent/additive that says it will "reduce engine knock and free sticky lifters" run with that additive for a couple hundred miles or until the noise gets better. then replce your oil after that without using the additive

Ticking sound

Gm will tell you this is normal lifter noise if it from the top of the motor. It could be from the exhaust but you would hear it from under the car more. I do not care for the responce from GM but they say it is ok.
