2002 ford escape starts but stalls out when moving. runs fine in neutral and reverse, but stalls out when accelerator applied while in any forward gear.

Just a couple of things to check if you haven't compare the smell and apearance of the tranmission oil to so new, if it looks dark and smell burned you probably have a bad transmision, clutches or burned up. Does it whine or make any noise? a stopped up filter will do this. also is it full when warm on the dip tick runniing in park?

check throttle position sensor wire chewed up, broken wire or unplugged? check with volt meter mesure the voltage @ throttle positon sensor see if there's voltage goes up/down when u apply/release gas.

Sounds like the fan clutchis driving the fan all the time, and therefore at a higher speed than it used to.

I've got exactly the same problem in '93 Camry w/5SFE automatic w/248,000mi. Transmission shop I trust told me ****** was gone. Another mechanic said the same. I'll drive it 'til the forward gears stop working. Forward L,2,D work great, except downshifting doesn't slow the car at all, although the engine goes to idle.

Let me know if there is any easy fix! Already did a fluid & filter change. . . .results no change. Thanks, cc
