2003 Infiniti QX4 - Dies after starting. Check engine light on. O'Reilly's code scanner doesn't identify the specific sensor that is causing problem. Have performed 2 different "learn" sequences from on-line advice. Still have same problem. Any likely suggestions on which sensor it may be and the locations of them? I have checked all connections on the sensors that I believe to be associated like manifold pressure, etc.

Check the MAF sensor, after a few years those start to go bad. Throttle body may also need cleaning.

Thanks for reply. Is that the manifold air flow sensor? I have checked that connection, before, but I didn't actually check the sensor. Is that possible with amp/ohm meter or should I just replace it? Sounds like a common problem and maybe replacement trial and error is reasonable method?

SOURCE: Pls where is Swirl Control Solenoid Valve located in Infiniti QX4

This link shows the location of the SCV, If your motor is different the location should be similiar. http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/5687/vacuumdiagramuh3.jpg

There's a vaccuum line that runs off the SCV to the SCV check switch.

P0442: Have you inspected the lines, charcoal cannister etc? Make sure the fuel cap is tight. The easiest way to check the system is to have someone perform a smoke test. I had a DTC on my car which indicated a EVAP problem, it turned out to be the Fuel tank evaporator Control Solenoid.

Difference between Air fuel ration sensor to O2 sensor?

usually an O2 code is 3 digits and not this type of code. if it has an mass air flow sensor(MAF) it could be it. I would start with checking the MAF readings then the O2 readings. OBD 2 codes are emission regulated so no matter what car it is the codes represent the same problem.

My check engine light came on why?

Sometimes the Check Engine light comes on at a specific mileage, and other times it is because a sensor is alerting you that there is a problem.

You can take the car to most auto parts stores (Autozone, Checker-O'Reilly, etc) and ask them to hook up a scanner which reads the car's error codes, which will help to diagnose the problem.

Good luck!
