It sounds like you have a stuck door switch -- these turn on the lights when you open the door.

I'm guessing that the lights turn off when you start the car because the battery is pulling down the current available to the lights.

Clarification on above: I should have written faulty door switch, not stuck door switch -- doing too many things at one time. Sorry.

1996 jeep grand cherokee no automatic interior lights

1. If you have the light switch in the wrong mode the lights will not operate when you open the door.

2. If the interior lights do not operate at all (ie you cannot switch them on and off manually)then you need to check the fuse for the interior lights.

3. When set to the correct mode, the interior lights will operate from a door operated switch so if the switch has failed the lights will either stay on or not operate at all when you open and close the door. Eventually these door switches fail with repeated use and need to be replaced. (Consider how many times the small door switch has been operated since 1996).

Interior lights wont go out

Check for a faulty switch inside the door jam. If the switch is broken or pushed into the holder, it will not open the circuit thus the light will stay on. You may have to remove the bulb until you have time to replce the switch. Good luck

After turning the truck off and pulling out the key the interior lights wont go off the dash board lights go out but not the over head lights we have checked everything on the light panel to make sure that...

If you truck has a convenience timer for the lights that may be the problem. When you exit the truck do your lights normally stay on and then slowly dim or go out? There will be a relay like unit plugged into the fuse panel marked light timer or something like that. Remove it and see, the interior lights should now probably not work at all. Just replace it with a new one or from a salvage yard.

Power windows and doors dont work and interior lights stay on

check for broken wires from drivers door to dash, the wires are in rubber boot where door hinges are, open drivers door and look at hinges in the middle you will see a rubber boot you may have to cut, but first pull it away from frame and door it pops out with a prybar orscrew driver slide boot back and look at wires, the wires always break in the middle, start there hopethis helps.

04JeepGrdCher:Interior lights stay on and power windows dont work

I had this same problem but no sunroof on mine. there is a bundle of wires that goes into the door and if the power wire breaks and the power window lockout was pushed when it happens no windows work and the dome lights stay on on mine it happened on the drivers side it was an easy fix i took the door panel off and unpluged the harnes and pulled it through the inside of the jeep and spliced the wire back together and it has been working since.

Sounds like a fuse issue. check your panel for popped accessory fuse.

the overhead light issue may be the door close switch

My 1990 jeep wrangler won't turn over at all

First, check battery voltage. It should be 12V Or, if really cold, high 11's (11.8, 11.9) but absolutely no lower. If you can't read voltage, charge it up. (with a battery charger, not another car) Check interior light to make sure you didn't leave it on and also the glove box (most often overlooked item... if not closed all the way, light stays on). Once charged, you can check other items in order to verify everything is OK. Good luck
