SOURCE: glow plug light flashes on97 tdi sharan

on some diesel engines the glow plugs will cycle after the engine is started. it does sound like your glow plugs are not all working that would cause the hard start and excessive smoke when it does start.

SOURCE: my golf gt tdi glow plug light keeps flashing

check to see if your brake lights are working.usually the stop light switch fails and is the cause.but before buying a new one check the stop light fuse.its a common problem with a simple fix.hope this helps.

SOURCE: 02 VW Jetta TDI with ALH engine glow plug

this is a common problem for these cars glow plugs go bad like spark plugs however the smoke would lead to bad mass airflow meter. it is not telling ecu corrcet miss. disconnect mass airflow meter. when cold see if this makes it start better. it should would means you need new m.a.f. glow plug issue take a test light place clamp on positive of battery then pull off glow plug connectors place tip of test light on glow plug the bad one will have a dull light unlike the good one which will be brighter. will need new plugs and wire harness four **** connectors and wire striper and crimper will fix concern good luck

SOURCE: engine check light on, code P0380, glow plug

first check glow plugs resistance values, sorry but i cannot tell you what they are supposed to be at offhand.

if the values are correct then you may need to replace the wiring harness which connects to the glow plugs.

more likely to be the plugs themselves though

What does the P0380 mean? The volkswagon dealers can't (or won't) tell me! Thanks Gerry

The code indicates that the glow plug is failed..

First check glow plugs resistance values. It must measure between .5 to .7 ohms.

I have a vw bora 1.9 tdi and the heater plug light has started flashing and the car says engine workshop

There are a number of different causes of this problem. Check all glow plugs. Check glow plug relay. If both are ok....This may seem unusual...Check the brake light switch situated at brake pedal. A faulty brake light switch will cause the glow plug light to flash
Good luck with it

How do I gt to the 3 glow plugs in my cooling/heating unit??? (2001 Jetta TDi)

They are absolutely pulling your leg if they're telling you that you have 7 glow plugs. It sounds like they don't have a clue about TDI's.
Everything you ever wanted or needed to know about TDI's can be found at www.tdiclub.com You should even be able to find a knowledgeable guy in your area that would be willing to take a look at your car. These guys know their stuff. Better than any VW dealer on the planet.
Read this thread - you might be able to figure something out on your own: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=749854

Are you having problems with your heating/cooling? OR did you get a check engine light and found out about P0380 when you brought it to the shop?
You more than likely have an issue with your glow plug harness. The connectors on the glow plug harness (where they plug into your glow plugs) prob need to be cleaned. Read this thread too:

Glow plugs check enging light

did you clear the code? some codes don't get cleared automatically when the problem is fixed. take it by an auto parts store and ask them to clear it and see if you get the code back.

I have a 2000 Golf TDI and while driving to work this morn. the glow plug symbol started flashing and when I pressed the gas pedal it would not go or engine would not rev up. The engine was still running...

your car went in to limp mode...it sounds like you have got a intermitant fault with the throttle pedal.get the fault read to confirm.you can drive it but it may reoccur...you are doing no damage
