Broken wheel studs on 1996 grand am se- passenger front

Broke (2) studs on the front passenger side, studs knock out , but can't be removed without taking off hub, is the hub a complete assembly up to seal and timken bearing or can the hub that holds the studs be separated from the bearing housing. I looked online and see only hub assemblies, however I was able to get new studs.

Thanks, that helps a whole lot.

  • sweeneyke Apr 29, 2009

Yes , you can, I jacked both wheels off the ground and rotated to the best possible spot to remove lugs, at first they hit the corner of the bearing housing and just hung up, with a small grinder I was able to ease the corner of the housing and remove the studs and repalce with new. Thanks for the help and the input, hope I never have to do this again.

Usually they are an assembly but when i get crazy and damage studs i raise and support both front wheels so i can turn them and slowly move the hub where you can fit teh stud in and use an open lugnut to tighten down it will pull the stud in (i use an air compressor for this)

Three Wheel studs broken how do I replace preferably cheap?!

Here is some help for you to replace the broken wheel studs on your 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan, you will need to follow these steps:

First, you will need to remove the tire that has the broken studs. You can do this by using a tire jack to lift the car and then using a lug wrench to loosen the lug nuts. Once the lug nuts are loosened, you can remove the tire from the car.

Once the tire is removed, you will need to use a hammer and punch to carefully tap the remaining pieces of the broken studs out of the hub.

Next, you will need to purchase new wheel studs that are compatible with your car. You can find these at an auto parts store or online.

Once you have the new studs, you will need to use a press or a hydraulic tool to press the studs into the hub. Make sure that the studs are pressed in evenly and securely.

Finally, you can replace the tire and lug nuts, and lower the car back to the ground. Test the new studs to make sure that they are secure and that the tire is properly seated on the hub.

jack up vehicle, remove tire. knock out old stud with a hammer and punch. put new stud in from back if need be. to draw it up tight.use a lug nut with something under it so when you tighten the nut it brings the stud into position. remove the nut you put on. and replace the tire. good-day! if the brakes and rotor are in the way. you will have to remove them to replace the wheel stud.

I broke 2 wheel nut studs. How do I replace them?

Lug studs are pressed in from the back side and on most cars, if you rotate the axle to a specific point there is enough room to knock it out. then once you have the proper replacement, it can be "pulled" back in using a lug nut and washers as spacers. I have had lug nuts get ruined by this procedure so buy extras.

Wheel Stud

If you remove the wheel drum you can knock out the broken stud. It is pressed into the hub. Take the hub to aan auto parts store ( so you get the same size stud) and buy a new stud. put the stud into the hole in the hub. When you remount you remount the tire and tighten the lug nuts that will pull the new stud up tight in the hub.

Hope this helps

Good luck Loringh
