Losing power in 2003 Chevy Suburban Z71 (80,000 mi)

I have a 2003 Chevy Suburban Z71 (80,000 miles) -- When I accellerated, I felt a reduced power and a blinking check engine light came on. After a few start ups, the light reset and went off, but as soon as I accellerated quicky past 40 mph the light came on again and I felt it struggle for power again.

this sounds like the egr valve is sticking . that would be my first diagnostic. i would change fuel filter next and check fuel pump preasure second. third id change the map sensor .does it not bring up any codes because you can drive it with the code reader plugged in and that would probley give you some where to start so many things can cause this oxygen sensors a vacume leak from a cracked hose . drive with the code reader first .

Your problem could be in the Transmission, but most likely it is caused by a sensor / electric part called an Accellerator-Pedal-Position-Sensor (APP-Sensor. If it is the APP Sensor, then you should be getting a signal in the information center saying "reduced power" or a Check-Engine Light.

My 2003 Chevy Suburban runs fine and everything is good, then all of a sudden the reduced engine power message comes up. I can pull over kill the engine for twenty or thirty seconds and then we go on. ...

this may be a computer problem or fuelpump, i would start by having the computer scanned for any stored codes. these codes will help in pin pointing the problem so start there. hope this is helpful. good luck.

2005 suburban stabilatrac disabled

The Reduce Engine Power problem on my 03 Suburban went away when I had to replace the fuel mixing sensor. I damaged the sensor by topping off with E85 (ethanol) by mistake late at night. The vehicle just would not turn on in the morning. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. I was in Carlsbad NM about 800 miles from home. I had no choice but to pay $1,100 to get it fixed. At the same time the Reduce Engine Power problem went away. And thanks to God it has not come back for nine 9 months now.

2003 suburban Losing power.....

Do a back pressure check on the cat converter if gas powered. Diesel doesn't have one. If you get 1lb or more psi of back pressure the cat is bad. Also check the fuel pressure with a gauge when this happens.

You are your own best judge on that, i got a 95 silverado with 160,000 mi. and would not think twice about driving and pulling anything across the country, but one thing i would recamend (if it dosent have one already) is an external trans. cooler.

1997 GMC Suburban losing power hesitation

I just went through this with a ford at the shop we threw parts at this car for days. It turned out to be the PCM. You can have all the best fuel pressures plugs, and MAF input but if the computer isn't reading it properly it can't work properly. The batterybeing disconnected is resetting the PCM taking it out of limp mode thats why it runs ok for short bursts. Its probably over-heating.
