There's no pin as such. An automatic gearbox does have solenoids for operating valves.
A valve can become stuck.
Reverse gear is first gear - when you select reverse a 'cog' moves onto first gear to reverse the direction of the gearbox output shaft - giving you reverse.
It may well be a stuck valve. Try selecting reverse a few times after the car has been run and the fluid is hot. A stuck valve (in the transmission) may free itself
on top of transmission you can see the shifter cable remove it from lever. Try to move lever freely try to move the shifter if it stuck again

If it is stuck in reverse that is a transmission problem or a break in your shift linkage. Unless you are an ace mechanic you'll need to flat bed tow it to a tranny shop for diagnosis. Because it is stuck in reverse is why it wont start, the neutral safety switch is disabling it.

2003 Lexus RX300: Transmission Fluid Burnt Brown and not Shift to reverse?
I am having the same problem with my 2004 XJ8. The shifter is in the park position but the reverse light is on. The car thinks it is reverse despite the shifter postion at park. I am unable to get it out of park position or start the engine.
