Just wrap the chain around the gears and lineup the dots. dot to dot and put them on. That's how it goes. The timing itself is not adjustable. It's controlled by the engines computer. It's that simple.

    You should have marked it. The rotor should point at the #1 wire pickup on the cap.

i would suggest getting a replacement at your local scrapyard. it will be usefull with later problems and i doubt it will be expensive

1995 jeep cherokee timing

You don't have to touch the distributor while doing a timing chain. You didn't mention engine size but in this case it applys to all engines. You will find fairly good instructions in haynes manual for this job.

each gear has a mark on it from the factory that line up with a corrrsponding mark on the engine some times they are hard to find but if you look hard enough you will find them they all must line up there is no margin for error or it will not start like now good luck Lindz
