Power door locks quit working, both interior switches, and remotes, all fuses are good? (2002 PT Cruiser)

I've checked the fuses, all OK, but not sure which relay is related to the locks.

  • glencoinc Apr 29, 2009

Where is the "RKE" module located? It is the original equipment, no after market, or dealer added equipment. I'm trying to avoid pulling off the door panels.

    Thanks, Glenn

I was asking where is this relay located, the relays under the hood aren't marked, is it somewhere else?

Owners manual has no info pertaining to the relays I take it. My manuals aren't up to date either. If there are relays under hood in a box, check under cover of box. Have a look in and beside any fuse panels in side vehicle, as well as near steering column area too.

what have you done to check the problem out? do you have a door panel off? do you have power at the switch? Do you have continuty at door lock actuator. Do you have a repair manual?

how did you check the relays, to find the problem with the door locks you need to remove the door panel and test for power at the door lock actuator or you can just buy the master switch and put it in and see if it works.

    An after thought,

the module the powers that system is RKE remote keyless entry if you have an aftermarket alarm system or a dealer add-on alarm system it will be connected to the RKE and if there is no power to that system it will not work. if you feel that it is above your expertise than take it to a shop that you trust and has a ASE master mechanic. good luck AJ

Remove door panel and check for power to door lock actuator - if power is available when remote is pressed then replace door actuator.

Remote keyless entry module

First off we need to know if it is a factory or aftermarket alarm. Plus, whether you have a fob or not won't make the alarm malfunction. If I were to venture a guess you have an aftermarket alarm that has gone around the bend. But if it is a factory unit then defective door switches (the ones that turn off the dome lights when the door is closed) could be the problem. Also there could be a problem with the power door locks themselves but not real likely. The body module could have issues in the security section, again not real likely. Usually problems like this are found in bad grounds, switches, intermittent power feeds, or something similar. Even if one of the door jamb switches is just loose and able to shift around could cause weird things to happen. And don't forget the switches under the hood and trunk lid. You can try each door switch by just pushing it in and out and wiggling it around with your finger to see if it has a short or bad ground. If it does the dome light will go on and off as you wiggle the plunger and that may be your problem. Good luck. Intermittent electrical problems are the hardest ones to find.

Where is BCM located on 2002 PT Cruiser locks working even when car is not on have been told to check BCM don't know where to find it

I don't find a body control module for your car, but according to the wiring diagram the door locks are controlled by a keyless entry module which is located on top of the dash behind the ac vents.
There are three fuses that power the module.
Check with your dealer for more details.

I was installing a cd player in my pt cruiser and now the interior lights and door locks and some of the dash lights want work i checked the fuses and they seem fine

Be sure too carfully inspect all the fuses especially the fuse running the interior of the car. You can narrow down the fuse by looking in your owners manual. Some blown fuses may look ok at first glance but may actually be blown.

My 2001 pt cruiser auto door locks no longer work nor does the key fob. The door locks were acting like sssharp's - doing their own thing and locking or unlocking on their own and rattling in the back door...

As stated above, it is most likely your RKE (remote keyless entry module). It is easy to find and relatively easy to replace yourself. I just recently did so on my 2002 PT Cruiser. Got a used module from a 2005 at a salvage yard. Put in the module myself. However, you do have to take it to the dealer to reprogram so your remotes work with the module replacement. That cost me $50. If you are interested in doing the labor yourself, email me. [email protected]

The front power windo switches are not working

Check your fuses, if ok then put your ear against the door and listen for any clicking or watch your interior light to see if powers being drawn. if you hear clicking or interior light slightly dims for a sec. you probably have bad motors, also check your wires to the motors and door switches..Good Luck..Mike

2002 pt cruiser light problem

If the fuse is good, and they light up with the turn signals and brakes, it is most likely in the switch itself. Something is not making good contact.
