Can't get A/C belt around pulleys on my 01 Chevy Tracker 2.5 V6

Replacing belts. Got alt belt back on with major difficulties. Got A/C belt off after loosening tension bolt on idler pulley. Now can't get belt back on around idler puller. Any tricks or special tools needed?

I never had this much problem with my Ford van which has a tension spring idler type pulley.

    2.0L Engine
    Accessory Drive Belt

        Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Use a wrench and rotate the belt tensioner clockwise.

With pressure applied to the wrench, and tension relieved from the drive belt, remove the accessory drive belt.

Inspect the belt for cuts, cracks, wear, deformation or other abnormalities. Replace as necessary.

    To install:

Properly route and install the accessory drive belt onto the drive pulleys.

Use a wrench and rotate the belt tensioner clockwise.

With pressure applied to the wrench, install the accessory drive belt.

With the accessory drive belt installed properly, release the belt tensioner.

        Inspect for the following conditions:

That the belt is properly installed on all pulleys.

When a new belt is correctly installed, the hash mark will be within the indicated range on the tensioner.

If the tension indicator mark is to the left of the hash mark, the belt must be replaced.

        Connect the negative battery cable.

    Cooling Fan Belt

        Disconnect the negative battery cable.

Loosen the adjusting bolt and the pivot bolt.

Remove the tension on the fan belt by rotating the tension bolt counterclockwise.

Remove the 4 fan nuts. Use a second wrench to hold the fan shaft.

Detach the fan from the pulley hub and remove the fan belt.

    To install:

Install the fan belt while holding the fan away from the pulley hub.

Install the fan to the hub.

Install the 4 fan nuts. Use a second wrench to hold the fan shaft and tighten the fan nuts to 97 inch lbs. (11 Nm).

Install the fan belt properly on the pulleys.

Turn the tension bolt clockwise in order to obtain the specified belt deflection under 10 kg (22 lbs) of force.

Adjust the cooling fan drive belt to obtain 4-5 mm (0.16-0.20 in) deflection for a new belt or 5-7 mm (0.20-0.27 in) deflection for a used belt.

Tighten the adjusting bolt and the pivot bolt while holding the correct tension on the fan belt. Tighten the bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (45 Nm).

        Connect the negative battery cable.

I installed belt on my 2.5 tracker last night. Had to pry off old belt. with tensioner as loose as possible, I was able to get the belt on... Unfortunately I had to remove fan and shroud in order to access the Idler pulley. The whole process took me approx. 30-40 minutes and some scratched forearms..

If the belt on a 2.5 tracker goes on hard (like it's a inch too small) go the next size up on belt because if it's from AutoZone there belt listing is wrong.....check your idler pulley- belt adjuster too if the outside is shiny..chances are it could be no good

How to change belts on 2002 Nissan Frontier 4 cylinder

2002 frontier 4 cyl: 1) take off air intake tube, 2 screws 13 mm above radiator. 2) 1st belt for power stirring has pulley, undo pulley screw and unscrew adjuster bolt enough to take belt off 3) 2nd belt for alternator and water pump has no pulley but adjusting bolt and mounting bolt on alternator pulley, loosen mounting bolt and unscrew adjusting bolt enough to take belt off, if alternator will not move go under the truck and remove plastic cover- 6 screws 13 mm heads, after that look directly under alt. Pulley and should see a screw head 9/16 in, loosen it so alternator can move, now should be easy to remove belt ( it will be a lot harder to put new one though) 4) 3rd belt for compressor has pulley so follow #2 to remove it ,have to be done under the truck. First 2 belts will have to work around fan blades to remove them so wear gloves. After replacing belts remember that not to over tighten bolt on pulleys.

How to replace timing belt on a 2003 chevy tracker

Open the hood and locate the accessory belt routing diagram that is stamped to the top flat surface of the radiator shroud. Use the routing diagram to properly route the new belt around each accessory pulley.
Look on the front of the engine between the alternator and the power steering pump and locate the automatic belt tensioner. Use the pulley that is attached to the end of the tensioner to loosen the tension from the belt.
Position a breaker bar and a 14 mm socket onto the bolt head in the middle of the tensioner pulley. Turn the breaker bar clockwise to loosen the tension from the belt. Slide the belt off of the tensioner pulley and slowly release the breaker bar.
Slide the belt out from around all of the engine accessory pulleys. Pull the belt around each of the fan blades and up out of the engine compartment.
Slide the new belt around each of the fan blades and around each of the accessory pulleys as directed by the belt routing diagram.
Turn the tensioner clockwise with the breaker bar and the 14 mm socket again. Slide the belt around the tensioner pulley and slowly release the breaker bar. Pull the breaker bar and socket off of the tensioner and out of the engine compartment.
Crank the engine for ten to fifteen seconds to finish seating the ribs on the inside of the belt to the grooves of each accessory pulley. Turn the engine off.

1993 beretta serpentine belt diagram

well its hard to describe but here goes. the belt will run across the top from the PS pump to the alt. from the alt to the inside of the water pump, then to the outside of the a/c comp . then around the crank pulley, then up to the inside of the tensioner, then up around the outside of the PS pump. It will be easier to put the belt around all the pulleys except the alternator, release the tensioner and with the belt loose, slide it over the alt pulley. GOOD LUCK. I hope you fixed the problem with the belt, they just dont fall off for no reason. ck tensioner pulley, water pump.

Can't get A/C belt around pulleys on my 01 Chevy Tracker 2.5 V6

The belt typically won't squeal when too tight, it will just put more wear and tear on the components. I would recommend removing the belt, and cleaning the pulley with brake parts cleaner and a tooth brush. There is probably some sort of residue on the pulley, which is allowing the belt to slip when the a/c clutch engages. If this doesn't help, make sure all of your pulleys are aligned. Use a long straight edge to check their alignment with each other. If they aren't close to perfectly straight, it will cause the belt to ride funny and squeal when the a/c clutch engages.

How do you relace an alternator belt on 1998 chevy tracker?

A year is not a good sign. The belt should not have come off in that span of time. I would make sure you do not have a worn out idler or tensioner pulley bearing before installing your new belt or reinstalling the original if it is not worn or damaged.

You will find one or two small pulleys involved with drive belt. One of the smaller pulleys will be an "idler" pulley and simply redirects the belt to a different accessory. The other small pulley is considered a "tensioner" pulley, it is spring loaded and keeps the correct tension on the accessory belt.
The tensioner pulley will have a "squared" hole in the bracket or a bolt through the center of the pulley. In either case you will use a wrench to pry the tensioner pulley arm in the direction that loosens the belt. Once tension is relieved, pull the belt off a pulley and remove the belt. You will reverse the process to install the new belt.
Good luck and let me know.
