Fuel pump or fuel pump relay on 1989 Chevy Suburban 1500 4x4

Truck won't start. Know replacing fuel pump will be a b$*&# because it's in the tank. Where is the relay? Any options to bypass in-tank fuel pump with a replacement?

The relay and fuse are in the power distribution box under the hood. as far a by pass you still can use an aftermarket electric pump ,however the cost will be about the same as re3moving the old pump in the tank if that is the cause in the first place. if all you need is the relay replaced then i'm sure that the pump is still good. if the pump is bad then make sure if you by pass the in tank pump that the new under hood electric pump has enough pressure to give the needed gpm(gallons per minute) required for your system and that if wired into the current fuel circuit that you dissconnect the wire harness to your tank pump

Try autozone or Pep Boys. You may have a relay of same number near or beside fuel pump relay, swap if there, and try that.

1989 chevy 2500 truck v-8.won't start when temp is below 81 outside takes about three tries to get it started and pumping gas pedal.

My 1986 Silverado 3/4 ton started that and I chased it, and chased it. Remember the KISS theory! Start with the fuel filter, because that what it ended up being. Can't explain why exactly, but when discussing it with other mechanics we came up with maybe some form of wax that would melt above a certain temperature. When the fuel filter fixed the problem, I removed the tanks and steam cleaned them and replaced, no more problems starting other than my chock needing adjusted every so often.

Is the fuel pump located inside the tank on a 1989?

dont go replacing everything...thats gonna get expensive real quick...especially that fuel pump. yep...the pump is inside the tank. stand out side your truck, and turn the key over, but not enough to start it. you should haer a whirring sound lasting about 2-3 secs. come from the back of the truck. this is the fuel pump powering up. if you dont hear it...then the pump is bad. if you do hear it, have a friend turn the key while you look at the carb/injectors to see if fuel is spraying thruthem,if it isnt....then you have a clogged fuel filter. BUT...b4 you do any of this...check your fuel pump relay and fuse to make sure they are good. a 10 cent fuse beats a 200 dollar pump any day.
keep me posted!!

1996 GMC Suburban - Quit Running While Driving, Will Not Start

Listen at the back by the fuel tank for a 1 to 2 second prime cycle whirr from the tank when turning the key to run position after it has been off for at least 10 seconds.
No noise means no running pump.
....and no noise means.....
Most likely it will need a new fuel pump....80%
Fuel pump relay 10%
Fuse or bad wiring 10%

The quick fix to get home is to crank the truck to create oil pressure to fire the pump......and while cranking WHACK the tank hard with a 2by4 or something like that....to jar the pump..... and it may start running long enough to get it somewhere to be repaired.
This works 60% of the time on a dead pump.

If you do hear a whirrr.....you most likely need a ignition module or crank or dist pickup.

No power to fuel pump no hum when key on and inj not pulsing

Fuel Pump Relay Circuit...
There is an Oil pressure switch in this circuit that disallows the relay to complete the power supply to the fuel pump. It is for safety purposes , it senses engine oil pressure upon cranking of the engine and then completes the ground circuit to close the relay sending voltage to the fuel pump at start up, and also functions as an engine kill if you loose oil pressure opening the ground circuit which in turn opens the contacts in the relay shutting off the power to the fuel pump.... Invest in a vehicle specific repair manual with wire diagrams... hope this helps..

I have a 1988 chevy silverado 5.7 ltr and it will not trun over, what other option do i have besides replacing the fuel pump

Yes typical problem and know about the pain in the #$#$ about getting the tank down.

The relay is under the hood and in the relay box. Quick check the fuel pressure on the injection rails.

Yes you could add an inline fuel pump to the line and see if that would create enough pressure. I do that on my race cars.

Fuel pump shut off location on a 1999 chevy suburban???

there is no fuel pump shutoff on this truck, if the fuse and relay are good there is a 99.9% chance your fuel pump is gone bad. they usually start to give off a louder sound from the tank and then they quit shortly after.
