Refueled my new 2013 X5 for first time yesterday; gas nozzle did not "shut off" when filled and gas spurted all over. Have never had this happen before in any vehicle I've ever owned or refueled. Anyone else experiencing this?

Did the car store or was not used for a while or been in an accident I think the (float ) level for the tank has been moved or broken Like in a toilet if the float does not work water will run for ever In a mitsubishi shogun pajero the tank is easily approcheable on the rear of the seat I ' m not sure on the BMW Best ask and get your mechanic to change it Good luck

SOURCE: check engine light

You may be low on oil. If not, you are still under full warranty, so pay a visit to your dealer. If you ignore the warning then you may damage your engine and reduce the life of your vehicle.

SOURCE: I ran out of gas and refueled now car won't start.

when u run the gas tank empty it severly overheats the electric fuel pump inside the gas tank, this tiny pump depends solely on the fuel flowing around and through it to lubricate and cool it so it won't overheat, you have seized up the fuel pump, u can let it cool for an hour and make sure the pump is totaly immersed in fuel before retrying that means u must put in at least 5 gallons of gas.

SOURCE: smells like gas when started and engine light

get it checked it sounds like an EVAP code will turn up and have to be fixed as gas fumes are dangerous, to find and fix this you will need the system smoked .and tested by a shop with a scanner to test all the sensors.

Can only pump fuel very slowly into my 2003 2.7 litre Kia optima. Why, and how to fix?

Check that the flap/valve that moves aside when you insert the fuel nozzle is moving fully. Also check the rubber tube on inside of the fuel filler cap to the tank is ok .. and often, there may be a thinner tube that acts as a vent... check the vent tube (if fitted).

When you fill your car with fuel the back pressure from the vehicle fuel tank causes the fuel nozzle to cut out and stop delivering. This is just a safety feature. Every fuel nozzle in the world is the same..

You don't have a big problem. Next time you refill with fuel try delivering in short 'spurts' .. pull the trigger for a few seconds and then release .. pull again ... Let the pressure in the tank drop between spurts. Don't shove the nozzle into the fuel filler and try and blast gallon after gallon into the tank.

I'm in the UK. I have a 1998 Jeep. Every time I fill it with gas it takes a while and my wife phones the police to report me missing from home... You don't have a problem. Fill it with spurts..

I cant fill my gas tank. the gas spurts out when I try to fill tank.

The only thing I can suggest is perhaps you are trying to fill the tank to fast or the nozzle is not in the correct position.
1. slow the fuel speed
2. move the nozzle to different depths

Gas pump shuts off while filling tank constantly

like answer number 2 up there, California has a Fume Collector over the nozzle, and extends over the hose itself.... its really important NOT to "top it off" after the nozzle shuts off automatically.... it has a tendancy to fill up that vapor space with gas, and you can try to put gas in your car, but it stops each time you pull the "trigger" on the handle (acts like the tank is full) The service station person needs to come out and drain out the excess gas from the hose vapor space. (they are quite familiar with this.... it happens a lot)

Having problem with trying to gas up the elantra. gas pump handle keeps clicking off. have to squeeze handle real lightly to fill up tank takes a long time to fill up. help

I know you probably won't like my answer, but seeing as I am a service tech for gas stations, the nozzle has a safety feature which shuts/kicks off when gas splashes back into the nozzle, thus keeping the gas from running over when the car is unattended and nozzle is locked. You can try pulling the nozzle back til it is barely in the tank or try a different gas station as some nozzles are different. As it is the shape of the fill tube on your vehicle. Hope this helped Tim

When pumping gas, the pump pops and shuts off like tank is full. It does this the hole time I am trying to fill the tank.

on the nozzle of the dispensers there is a safety kick off, this will activate whenever gas splashes back into the nozzle. there are two ways to make this not happen, the first is back the nozzle out so it does not have gas splashing back into the nozzle or find another gas station that have different nozzles.

Can't get gas into my 2002 Hyundai Accent.

The reason the gas station pump shuts off is when the fuel reaches the tip of the gas nozzle, so when you are filling your car and the gas nozzle (gas stations pipe) keeps shutting off it means that the pipe that runs to the gas tank is not open completely, what happens is when you pump the gas in the car the supply pipe from the gas tank opening to the tank fills up quickly and this causes the gas station pipe nozzle to shut off, have some body take down the gas tank and have a look at the gas tank opening and also gas supply pipe that runs from the gas filler opening ( on the car body) to the gas tank. Have a look at it and please don't forget to rate the answer if it was helpful, thanks!

Ford 2005 Escape

you have a vapor vent tube problem. When fuel goes in, the iar must come out. The filler pipe has a vent pipe inside it. Try putting the nozzle in upside down & see what happens. Try putting the nozzle all the way in & see what happens? Try putting the nozzle in just a little way & see what happens.
Otherwise, you may need a new filler pipe.
