My 97 Ram 1500 over revs until i hit 45 mph. I remove my foot from the gas and let the RPMs drop then i slolwy push gas. if it doesnt over rev again my speed barley accelerates. is this a Transmission Problem or are some of my Spark Plug just not firing off?
It sounds more like a cable or linkage sticking, and yes it is transmission related, sort of, just because of the high RPM before shifting. Spray all your cables good with lube, at throttle linkage, and get under and look where cable & linkages are at side of transmission, and spray them good too, and work them back & forth, to try & loosen them up. Truck shut off & in park when under it eh.!
Then work shifter back & forth, gas pedal to floor & up etc, to try & loosen things up. That may just cure your problem.
I normally use White lithium spray, but you may want to use WD-40, to get it loosened up first & then a coat of white lithium grease to keep it lubed. This can all be done in the driveway with truck shut off, emergency brake on & block wheels just in case, while under there. If you have someone turn the key to on, (not start) hold their foot on brake also, and run shifter through the gears, while you watch under hood,at throttle body, then underneath at transmission where it all connects, you'll see all the moving parts you need to lube, as well as have them push gas pedal to the floor in drive (not running!) and watch for throttle valve linkage moving (kickdown linkage) so you can spray it as well. Just concentrate on areas where linkages/cables are moving.
