Sunfire would not turn over after parking

As i drove for approx. an hour before i pulled in and shut the car down for a few mintutes then tried to start, no click click click like a normal dead battery just one click and no start, also No indication lights have ever come on in the past. The odd thing was that the dash lights and radio were acting very odd , the ignition was acting strange as well(after removal of the key the door chime would stay on and dash lights would stay on for 30 seconds the shut off again, (with key out.) during the boosting and waiting for the battery to charge a little) i had placed the car in Drive and moved the car a lil back and forth as well. I cleaned off the batterey terminals and tightened as well (all in future shop parking lot in the dark lol) after trying a few times with nothing at all happening, except the door locks and trunk all worked off the key fob? as well the stereo came back on by itself (which was off b4 this all began)Just odd electrical behavior, but in the end the car finally started as normal, drove home 30 mins, then shut off and tried to start again Nothing, will not turn over Just one click and thats all, except lots of juice it seems in the battery for lights etc. and back to the odd electical behavior again but will not turn over a bit. Sorry for the long story but i thought the more detail someone has the beter chance of an answer from someone with a lot more knowledge than myself may help. I thank you very much in advance for any thoughts as to what may be happening. thx T

My passenger side window in the front will not power down with the switch on that door, nor with the passenger window front switch located on the driver's door panel. The Pontiac service manager said all the power windows are on one fuse. I either don't have power to one or both of those switches, or it is the motor in the window that won't power down. The three other windows seem to be working with their respective switches so it must not be a fuse problem. Any opinions before I tear into the switches, fuses, or the affected doors? Thank You, Mark Bettes

SOURCE: 2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.

SOURCE: Aztek won't start, key locked in ignition, service engine light on

It is the security chips in the keys. Has this car been wrecked? Was this car made in Mexico? GM had the bright Idea of creating a security system that would do exactly this, I know on cars made in Mexico (like the HHR) You can reset the power and get the key back out, but vehicle will have to be reprogrammed with the master key. This involves turning the key from off to run position without ever going past run (i.e. start position) leave key in this position for 30 minutes. Turn key back to off for 30 seconds then back to run for 30 minutes. repeat this step three times. the last time, after 3rd 30 minute period, turn key off for 30 seconds and then try to crank. Please note this only works if the original master key is being used. You can then reprogram the second key following a similar sequence, only master key that is working has to be inserted to let alarm system know that vehicle is not being stolen only that you are trying to reprogram a key. If original master key is not being used then vehicle has to be taken to the GM dealership to program keys and possible key module replacement.

Try starting it with the shifter in neutral. You might have a bad
Neutral safety switch.

Sounds like the starter. If you can locate it,tap on it with a hammer 3 or 4 times and try to restart. It may take several tries but should eventually start because starters don't quite fail 100%,they just kind of get stuck. If you can't find the starter, call a couple of parts stores or a dealer, someone is always willing to tell you for free to attract your business. It should work and you need a new starter.I put in a used one a couple of years ago and no problems yet,but the decision is yours.Good luck! What do you think is wrong

intermittents are sometimes hard to diagnose out !! and this seems as one , im curious though what made them wiggle the relays and fuses ?? was there a previous problem there ?? depending on year of manufacture of car , is weather or not the cars own pcu can help diagnose what made car stop , as later models "remember " what there last condition was that shut off engine , of course this requires diagnostic equipment to see this info that typically car owners don't own , but a qualified service tech does and knows how to use it to find your problem

You probably picked up some "trash" in the tank. There is a screen at the pump intake inside the tank that may have collapsed or become clogged. The fix for this? Pull the fuel pump, clean/replace the screen.

1997 Plymouth Breeze Engine keeps shutting off.

You need to do an OBD2 engine control module fault code test to see if the fault is recorded in the memory of the computer control module. Autozone and others do this testing for free.

My ignition is stuck in the on position

I would bet that the it is not recognizing that the vehicle is in park at the shifter. Your car goes into park but it is not triggering the electronic switch that tells the ignition this is happening.

hi There
I have read your report. Yes your dad is right. Check the alternator. Because if it goes bad your car will loose power and it would be hard for your car if had lights radio a/c on. The relay in alternator dose go bad and sometimes you get a bad one also. Try this tip when you start your car take the positive cable off the battery and if it dies. Then it's your alternator. just remember that little trick. Hope this info helps. and thank you for writing to fix ya.
