I am having assorted electrical problems with my 2000 buick regal L.S. ( 3.8 series 2. engine) about two or three years ago the odometer display on the insterment cluster went out ,all other functions on the cluster worked fine. about a month or two ago I started the car one morning and the mileage display was visible ( out of the blue). Shortly after that on occasion when driving at night the headlights would go out, I would cycle the headlights manually a couple of times and the headlights would come on, this continued until the headlights went out completely, would not operate manually or with the twilight sentinal feature. after that the car would not start, I noticed that if I pushed the hazard flashers , fooled around with the ignition key and cylinder or tilt positions on the column it would start. I tried my spare key thinking that the chip for the V.A.T.S. ignition on my main key was starting to wear ( same problem with both keys). After that I noticed when I turned the ignition to the on position and turned on the hazard flashers all the warning lights on the insterment cluster would flash at the same time the hazard lights flashed. Sorry don't mean to be long winded but Iam trying to give you as much info as possiable that I can rember in order of failures Thank you sir , S.R. san diego ca. Peace P.S. I worked at a buick dealership in San Diego for many years(25 ) as a service consultant. I am pretty sure the failure is eather the vats ign. or the multifunction switch , could it be related to the insterment cluster ? Thanks again (csmock132) said he would try to helo me with the diag. if I posted symptoms. ( [email protected])

cruise control and right turn signal work intermittently then they work again.
When the right turn signal is turned on and working the left turn signal light also flashes dimly.

Sound like a vacuum leak. Under the plastic cover marked 3800 series 2 there are a few thin plastic tubes going into rubber boots that have been known to slit or crack allowing too much air into the system. Start with the ones in front of the fuel intake manifold. Loks like a valve cover on the top of the engine. . Notice on the right. Two plastic tubes going into on rubber boot. Carefully pull it off and check the rubber for splits. Dead center on the back of the fuel l manifold are two more small tubes (2 into 1) same as in the front. Check this also. This Y shaped tube split on mine. When I tried to remove it. It fell apart. So I walked into pepboys auto center and purchased a box of vacuum T's. Assorted and a assorted package of 4 2 inch vacuum tube and made my own.
If the fuel pump is confirmed as the problem (a series of diagnostic tests are performed, about 1 hour labor time) and it must be replaced then the fuel tank must be removed from the car (the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank), this is about a 3 hour job plus parts.
The starter is on the underside of the transmission, there are wires feeding the solenoid (remove) 3 starter bolts (remove) pull off transmission/flywheel
Im assuming this is the Series I 3800? If so, if you can email me I can send you some directions on the process. Its for a Series II 3800 but it should be similar. If you cant email me, post up and I'll see what I can do.
