You have to know if the problem is inside transmission or outside
first under truck unplug shifter cable then try to move the manual lever of transmission near the pan but have hand brake on so the truck won't run over you.
if the problem is inside the transmission could be the parking pawl nut to manual shaft too much end play
if it outside transmission could be trans, cable or linkage
hope it helps

Your shift linkage has come undone. Jack the car up and climb underneath. You shift linkage is either com undone from the trans or you shift stabelize bad has come undone at the shift arm.

Same problem. $800 quote from Dealer for a small plastic part that broke because of terrible design. Nice work Ford. They should be ashamed.

How to replace a gear shift knob for 1992 Buick LeSabre.

The silver trim section is only clipped in place. It should be gently levered downwards to reveal a T10 torx bolt. Wind this out a few turns and the old knob should slide up and off.
On the new knob gently lever the silver cap downwards to reveal the torx bolt. Wind it out a few turns and drop it into place on the shifter. You might need to move the new knob around a little to get the bolt to hit the mounting hole. Do not over tighten the bolt. Turn it until it bites then turn it a small amount more, then stop.

My gear shift broke on my 2004 toyota sequoia just moves up and down without shifting gears

You need to get under the hood or under it and check the linkage from the shifter to the box, likely something has come off.

2002 dodge neon manual has no gears.

the gears my be fine need to remove the boot around your shifter make sure everything is connected still should have a cable shifter in it. if it is all hooked up there open the hood and look on top of the transmission it will have a lever the move back n forth to shift for each gear the other end of your cable attaches to the lever should have a either a plastic bushing or clip attaching it to the lever some time those wear the it pops off

have somebody move the shift around and see if it moves if it dont you need a shifter cable.

if it does then before you go any further reach down with your hand or a screw drive or pry bar if you cant get you hands to it with the clutch engaged you should be able to shift it into gear maunaly and feel it go in jus like you would if you was doin it from in the car make sure your gently so you dont bend anything if you can feel it go into each gear make sure your adjust the cable to where everything works

My 2004 Honda accord. the gear shift knob the release button broke and I can't get it into gear

All you really need to do is take out the broken know, make sure their aren't any broken pieces inside the shifter handle and use you finger to push the lever down so it could shift, thats it. :-)

It was hard to get into gear and would grind some if you tried to shift fast, it had since got stuck in 4th gear and wont shift at all. it starts and drives in 4th, if you wana call that driving. i dont...

probably locked the gears inside the transmission. grab a pair of vise-grips and grab the connecting rod and try to move it that way and see if you get any movement.

Chrysler 300 won't shift out of park

I had the same problem with my 05. I couldn't shift out of park. So, I checked brake pedal sensor, and wire linkage and they were fine. I took the center console apart and pulled out the shifter assembly and sure enough the problem was at the assembly. There is a plastic piece. that hooks to a small spring that snapped. I ened up renforcing it with a small clamp hose, and ever since its been functioning fine. I imagine I saved my over $500 bucks of repair cost and also wouldn't be surprize for others to have the same problem.

Manual transmission shifter will not engage

Sounds to me that the shifter broke, i believe the shifter has a ball end that slips into a pocket in trans. that moves for gear selection and that ball brook off end of shifter. if its got a linkage set up most likely samething either shifting arms came off or shifter broke where linkage rods connect.

1988 suzuki samurai WONT MOVE

First thing just try to push or pull the 4x4 lever if you get it to move and it feels like it went into some gear try to drive the truck. If this works look on the shifter for the 4x4 and put it in 2 wheel drive (H2 is two wheel drive,H4 is 4x4 high, and L4 is 4x4 low range).Make sure you have the clutch depresed when you try to move the 4x4 lever. If you try this stuff with no fix try and look for clutch adjustment on the transmision you may need to adjust it or your clutch is bad.
