The coolant system is a closed system. When the system is full the reservior acts as an expansion container. When the engine heats the coolant expands. The coolant expands into the reservior when the pressure cap releases. As the engine cools the coolant contracts and the radiator cap allows the coolant to flow back into the engine. If you are having coolant loss it should show as an external leak If there is no external leak it could be possible to have an internal leak. In theory this system should not lose anything but coolant loss on a small basis is expected. If your coolant loss is great and it is not seen externally I suggest that a pressure test involving engine components be done. I hope this can help Moe

We have coolant loss of about 750ml/trip - I know where the coolant is - it's in the expansion chamber, which is steadily filling more and more, but not getting drawn back into the radiator when the motor cools. This is an ongoing situation, which is continuing in spite of having the motor replaced (original motor blew head gasket and developed scoring on the block subsequent to the gasket blowing). Why is the coolant not being drawn back into the radiator on coo

Ford Fiesta Zetec engine, year 2000. overheats after getting up to temperature, stays on normal for 1-2 kilometers, then gauge shoots over to the red. I stop, can hear water bubbling, wait till it cools...

1. Check the radiator cap.
2. Check the reserve tank, whether water level is maintained or getting filled. If it's getting filled, there should be a leak in the radiator or gasket

How can i get to the fuel tank send unit only reads half full

well if you have it an empty fuel light came on to your dash, then you have travelled and just consumed the whole entire reserved gas in your tank, so when you are filling it up again, it will fill-up first the reservoir for your reserved gas then if it reach the minimum level of gas in your tank, then the fuel sensor unit will tell you now the exact amount of gas level on your gauge just keep filling it up (gas), DO not Press the entire trigger of the pump, just press it half way and moderate while filling -up gas so wont stop clicking and you thought that you have your tank full already but it was not.

2002 deville cadillac gas gauge changes level of gas at times when i have driven just a mile or two

You need to replace your fuel level sensor. But previous post is right, if you're comfortable running based on fuel remaining and kilometers, don't sweat it. If you're keen, the fuel level sensor can be accessed from the trunk (under the liner on the passenger side, beneath the silver panel).

I have a 2004 Grand Prix at 170k miles.. i used for work traveling a lot of hwy miles a day. Yesterday there was smoke coming from the hood and water splattered over my engine. All of my radiator coolant...

i had the same problem as well. you have to change a lillte part, plastic part that looks like an " L " that connects two metal tubes. they are located be the alternator, and serpentite belt. the belt comes off and the reserved water radiator also so you can have more space to work on. the part will cost you maybe $8. I hope this tip will help you!

Is my radiator deffective?

No this is not normal. Have you had a look at the water pump? It might pay to have the system pressure tested as there may be a leak that is happening while you are driving...
