In the power steering pump. Open the hood - the pump will likely be on the right hand side (looking rearward) and it will have a large pulley with a belt on it. It will have a large cap (1 inch or so) that is easily removed. It may say Power Steering on the top. It will have a dip stick attached to the cap.
From what you have described, there is a major leak in the power steering system. The leak will need to be identified and fixed and the operation of the power steering pump checked.
Currently the pump is pumping fluid out of the system under pressure (which is why you have to keep adding fluid) and is not providing the assistance to the steering that it was designed to do. The power steering pump itself may now also be faulty and require replacement.
try this method to see which fluid is leaking. Drive the vehicle and get it hot, park it in your usual spot. under the car put a piece of cardboard where you see the leak. if the fluid that you see is clear or red its power steering if its a greenish tint its the differential.
check for leak in power steering hose by taking cap off the power steering resevoir and than starting car, wait 1 min, turn wheel all the way left and than all the way right. do this about 5-8 times slowly over 3 min or so. turn car off, than observe fluid in resevoir. if you see lots of bubbles after 30 seconds or so, you have a leaky hose. air in the system makes the steering pump groan and moan and vibrate. if the pump is not bad, than change the hose and clamp.
just fixed mine yesterday. also buy a quart of 11s pentosin power steering fluid (green)...
