Is there a troubleshooting manual for a 1993 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 4 Wheel Drive. 4.0 or do I need to look in a manual? I have an oil leak by the oil filter and can't find where its coming from.

Try going to car wash and use the degreaser spray. clean up under the car real well in that area, and under the hood. spray it all off good and watch to see where the oil leaks from.

Testimonial: "I will try that. Thank you."

Usual leak next to the oil filter is the oil pressure sender leaking.

SOURCE: 1993 jeep grand cherokee laredo 4 wheel drive

I'm not absolutely sure on the tire size for the jeep itself, but I think they are 225/65/R15's. Not absolutely sure.

As for the noise, from your explanation, it sounds like the transfer case is under a heavy bind. Take it off of the road in some grass or dirt and then move it forward a few feet then simply hit reverse. Don't move much maybe an inch and it may release the bind. Once you get the bind off the transfer case, it should slip out of 4wd, unless there is damage in the case/shifter itself.

When operating four wheel drives, with tires of different sizes it causes extreme stress on the gearing in the transfer case. Larger tires don't turn the axles as much as smaller tires. So, this causes stress in the driveline as the front is actually turning slower then the rear. In turn, this will put so much pressure on the gears that it could cause damage and the shifting mechanism will not work correctly to pull it out of 4wd engagement.

Try those ideas, and see if you can get it out of 4WD. Definitely put four tires on the jeep that are all the same size. This will keep you from having excessive stress on the transfer case and gearing therein.

I hope this helps out buddy.

SOURCE: Service 4 wheel drive

The service 4 wheel drive light comes on because there's a problem. The biggest causes of this I've seen are a software glitch in the final drive control module which the dealer can fix by reprogramming and the other is usually the electric actuator on the front axle housing. The only light that comes on by a timer is the one that says, "perform service" in your overhead console or odometer.

SOURCE: 94 jeep cherokee 4ltr. Leak at oil filter adapter

It is very hard to turn, but it will come loose, a cut off allen wrench attached to a pipe works great, as there is no clearance to do it any other way. Have at it cause the allen bolt is pretty hefty.

the first grand cherokee laredo was in 1992 . it was all jeep sports back then, the blocks are all the same .you will need to use some of the sensors from the old motor, the distributor and oil sending unit and temp sensor. will be no problem. if I can put a ford ranger motor in a mercury sable your swap is easier

4 wheel drive problem

check your linkage bolt first. if it has came loose you will need to make sure it is set to be in 2 wheel drive.first make sure your shift lever is in the 2 wheel drive postion then crawl under the jeep loosen the nut move the lever all the way forward (front of the jeep) this is 4 low , move it back one notch and this is netural, move it back one more and this is 4 high, move it one more notch this is 2 wheel drive. tighten the bolt. this should get you back on the road.

'93 Jeep Gr. Cherokee 4x4 switch warning

this switch does not switch the vehicle from 2 wheel to 4 wheel drive. Grand cherokee have a manual shifter for that. The 4x4 switch is on top of the transfer case and tells the driver information display what 4 wheel drive mode the Jeep is in. ex..if you have selectrac, in 2 wheel the rear wheels on the display will light up, in 4 wheel all 4 wheels will light up, in 4 wheel low it will have the word low lit up in yellow. This is the only purpose for this switch and a bad one will not affect the functioning of the 4 wheel drive. Check out Rockauto.com and a new one can be purchased for about 35 dollars. If you call the dealership and ask for a 4 wheel drive switch, they will have no clue what you are talking about. The actual name is " 4WD indicator light switch"

1993 Cherokee Drivers Handbook

Congratualtions for wanting to get the facory recomended way to operate your car. It should be required reading for all car owners.

For the manual: I would first try a junk yard, if no luck, type factory owners manuals into google and you will have many choices

For the Key fob, I assume you mean a cherokee original type key. I would think these are available to lock smiths if you can convince them to order it. for you
Good luck

1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4 wheel drive

I also have a 1998 jeep cherokee sport, i was having the same issues so i asked my uncle who is a mechanic.. he told me since the jeep automatically locks the hubs when you put it in 4 wheel drive, sometimes the hub locks get stuck trying to unlock, to solve this when you switch back to 2 wheel drive, reverse like 10 - 15 feet, the wheels spinning the opposite way help unlock the hubs, since i started doing this as soon as i reverse i feel the 4 wheel drive unengage and have not had a problem with it since, give it a try and see if that fixes your problem
