My bmw 318i 2002 has got an exclamation mark in a circle showing on the dashboard next to the gear sensor light. It delays in response to peak up gears when moving but then responds if you keep foot on accelerator. On slowing down or stopping it shakes indicating change down of gears like as if applying emergency brakes. Whats wrong

P is for PROBLEM
This will require putting ontoa scanner to read the codes.
Could be oil, oil level, oil level sensor, speed sensor etc.
No guessing, just testing and a scan comes first.
You can get a mobile guy or pop into your local garage and ask if its summat they can do.

If the exclamation mark is in the middle of a rough circle, then it means the transmission is in safe mode due to malfunction. Put the car in park and engage the parking break. Turn off the engine and wait. After 30 seconds, restart the car. If the light is no longer on, the transmission is back in normal performance. Take it to a mechanic to have things checked out. If the light remains on, the car will only operate in certain gears and driving performance will be limited. The car requires immediate attention from a BMW mechanic and should not be driven any more than necessary to get to the mechanic.might be speed sensor or transmission control module.
Before you waste any more money, buy a Peake R5/FCX check engine analyzer and code resetter. It's $140.00 but well worth it! It gives you BMW specific codes and tables to properly diagnose your problems with the car.
simply open the boot & remove the blown bulb & replace with a new one. the bulb is just a half turn holding in there so turn it anticlockwise & it should pop out.
