Check Engine lite is on.

Last week after I put gas in my 2001 PT Cruiser the Check Engine lite came on when I'd driven about 10 miles. I thought it was a false reading because I hadn't tightened the gas cap properly so some guys at work disconnected the battery to try to reset the codes. It passed emissions inspection and stayed off until yesterday (I'm at 140 miles on the same tank of gas). Both times the lite came on I was accelerating going up a long hill. Any ideas before I take it into the shop? Thank you.

If you live in the US, take it to an Auto Zone store and they will read the code off for you, this may be true of other major auto parts outlets, as they hope to get your parts business.
Once you have the code, you can decide the best course of action.

Hope this is of some help.

It could be moisture yes, could be electrical if the wires and plugs are older they will crack and in humid or rainy weather they would be worse-or when they are cold.

It sounds like a sensor is intermittantly loosing the data stream. Since the engine light came on, I would go to a reputable shop and have them check for codes. Many auto parts stores will do this as well and sometimes for free. Can't beet free. If I were to guess I would say something like the camshaft postion sensor is going bad, Or the crankshaft postion sensor, Or something like that. The code will tell which one it is.

Good luck, and if you have any further questions please....ask!

The mileageclock do not work and stayin one

I would check for a broken or loose wire at the speedometer sensor on the transmission, or a bad speedometer sensor (VSS. Vehicle speed sensor).

Poor gas mileage

I hope your friend put some gas stabilizer in the tank before he store the car.

I will put one bottle of ISO-HEET (red bottle) to the fuel tank + fill-up and let it run down to 1/3 tank.

Fuel up with a full tank Chevron gas for one more pass.

You should get 21 city / 26 highway on the PT 2.4 Liter engine.

take 2 miles off if it's an automatic.

2001 PT Cruiser

Car overheats then engine dies going down hill coasting. When try to start, starter spins as if no gas or fire to the plugs. Can this be a sensor flipped by too much heat or lack of coolant ? If so, how do you reset the sensor ?
