My Nissan Xterra 2001 model will not shift into higher gears after gears 1 & 2. This problem started after the high pressure tube connecting the gear system to the radiator got busted while I was driving on the high at a speed of about 100kph and I lost almost all the gear oil. I got the tube replaced and refilled the oil and then this problem started.

SOURCE: Lost door lock remote for 2001 Nissan Xterra.

You don't want to turn the security system completely off, besides there really is no need to. To arm and disarm the vehicle simply use the key in the drivers door. When you turn the key and lock the car the system will arm after about 30 seconds. When you come back to the car and unlock the car with the drivers door lock cylinder the system will unarm, just the same as if you were using the remote. If the system is unarmed and it still wont start you probably have a NATS issue with the key. This is different than simply disarming. You can't shut off or disarm the NATS system.

SOURCE: Gear Shift gets stuck on Maxima 2001

The gear shift electrical relay or module inside it is not reading the signal to release. You need to have the electronic relay or module repaired or the gear shift assembly replaced.

2001 Nissan Xterra 5 speed manual 4x4 wont won't shift into 2nd, 4th, or reverse.

Probably issues with Shift Solenoids. You need a transmission specialist or an auto electrician with a pro grade bi-directional scan tool computer that can tell the solenoids to operate and confirm that they did. Or it is the powertrain module that is at fault.

2002 Nissan Xterra 240,000 miles, cranks and runs but when shifted into gear dies.

check the fuel pressure and flow , if the pressure is low replace the pump, if the flow is low replace the fuel filter, the injectors may need some attention at that mileage.

Also my nissan xterra 2000 does not move when i engage the gear on drive (D), it only move when on D2 then when in motion it will now engage when i shift the gear lever to drive i.e from D2 back to D.

have you inspected the cables or the linkage. if your linkage is worn or out of adjustment the truck might not start in the right gear p or n. and you would have to wiggle the shifter to get the right gear.

I have a 2001 nissan xterra - will not engage in reverse gear - any solutions?

Does it seem to bog down when in reverse as you accelerate? If so the trans maybe stuck in forward gear (mechanical problem) resulting in both forward & rev being applied.

Oil gauge

cold oil is thicker, higher rpm=more pressure .factory guage is actually working like it should. if worried hook external guage on oil galley plug and check oil press.manually.

My 2000 xterra will not fully engage into 4wd. I can feel it shift, but the front wheels will not lock...

When was the last time you shifted to 4WD?

If you do not use 4wd too often then try this old trick.

Next time you're going off road try to do the shift to 4WD,shift to reverse and drive in reverse for 6-12 feet.
(no gas //1 mph //SLOWLY)

Driving backward for few feet help the gear pickup the lubrication and let the gear sync up better.

Check your Xterra gearbox lube schedule.
