I have an 83 s10 Chevy, with a 5-speed Borg Warner manual transmission. I've just replaced the clutch bearing and installed a new clutch fork. Everything has been hooked up correctly, but there is no resistance in my clutch pedal. Everything I search online links me to hydraulic clutches, but this transmission has a linear clutch. How do I get the clutch to disengage again?

I had a friend push in and release the clutch pedal while I watched the line from below. The clutch fork BARELY moved. I hope this detail helps someone answer my question... I need this truck on the road again ASAP. :(

That did help me find out how to fix the clutch pedal itself. Thanks Denis Houle.

I've gone through the entire system, from the pedal to the input shaft. Like a young buck with an old truck, I counted on the good peoples of big name auto parts stores to have the knowledge to get me the right fork... -hides face- They gave me the wrong clutch fork twice! :( For this particular truck, it requires a rare clutch fork, that you're likely to only find in a salvage yard.

Anybody know where I can locate this damned bellhousing now? I found all the parts I need and it cracked on me while trying to mount up.

For all transmissions except for the Borg-Warner T5R, replace the transmission fluid at the first 15,000 miles (24,000 km) and then every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) thereafter. The Borg-Warner T5R transmission does not require periodic changing of the transmission fluid. (they lie)
  1. Raise the vehicle and support safely on jack-stands. Place a fluid catch pan under the transmission drain plug.
  2. Remove the fill plug from the side of the transmission, then remove the drain plug. Be cautious when removing the drain plug: the transmission fluid can be very hot. Allow the transmission fluid to drain into the pan.
  3. Install the drain plug and tighten to 20 ft. lbs. (27 Nm) for all models except the 1996 Hombre, which requires 27 ft. lbs. (37 Nm).
  4. Refer to the manual transmission fluid recommendations for the proper viscosity of engine oil, or type of transmission fluid to be used for the T5R and NV1500 transmissions. Fill the transmission by pouring the new fluid through the fill plug hole in the side of the transmission. Fill until the fluid starts to dribble out of the filler hole. Install the fill plug to 17 ft. lbs. (23 Nm), then lower the vehicle.
so next you ask, what fluid
sure.
Use engine oil for all of the manual transmissions, except for the Borg-Warner T5R and the NV1500 (1996 Hombre). Make sure to use engine oil of the correct viscosity for these transmissions, as follows:
  • Except 1992-96 Rodeo and Trooper, high temperature-SAE 40
  • Except 1992-96 Rodeo and Trooper, normal temperature-SAE 5W-30SF
  • 1992-96 Rodeo and Trooper, high temperature-SAE 15W-40, 20W-40 or 20W-50
  • 1992-96 Rodeo and Trooper, normal temperature-SAE 5W-30
he Borg-Warner (B-W) T5R is found on Rodeo models with the V6 engine. The 1991-93 B-W T5R uses DEXRON-II automatic transmission fluid, whereas the 1994-96 B-W transmission uses DEXRON- III automatic transmission fluid.

use the highest Dexron number, on the shelf, mark III is not made today.

No clutch pressure on a hydraulic clutch system borg warner transmission 4 cyl. 5 speed

look for leak....under the dash on the floor if its wet there its the master. Just follow rod from clutch peddle to master. Check the line and not sure if your slave is on the outside of the trans look there or if its in the trans see if its wet coming out of the bell housing (where trans meets engine) and replace that part and bleed system

How do you change a clutch on a s10 chevy blazer?

1. remove the driveshaft.
2. remove the transmission.
3. remove the bellhousing
4. unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel.
5. remove the clutch.
6. inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for scoring, checking, or other damage. repair/replace as needed.
7. place a clutch alignment tool into the clutch disk, insert it into the pilot bearing on the flywheel, and bolt the pressure plate back into place. Install a new throwout bearing on the clutch fork. remove the alignment tool.
8. install the bellhousing, connecting the clutch linkage.
9. replace the transmission and driveshaft.

I would *strongly* recommend buying a shop (service) manual which describes this process in greater detail. It is not rocket science, but it *is* a lot of work with many detailed steps that I glossed over above. If you are not certain that you are capable of this work, you need to take it to someone who is.

The transmission is heavy, you will need buy/rent/borrow a transmission jack to be able to safely get it in and out. Plus you need the proper ramps, wheel chocks, etc. to safely raise the truck enough to do all this, and you need a smooth, level surface to work on. A concrete garage floor is ideal, a driveway may be adequate if it does not slope much. Don't even attempt it on dirt or gravel.
