My 1999 jeep grand cherokee limited is all time 45 wheel drive but the four wheel drive will not engage even when put in 4 lo it still will not engage the back wheels just spin and your stuck
Sounds like the splines on your transfer case gear are ground down
Most all wheel drive have four wheel drive modules that go bad and will not in gauge..some are independent of the trans and can be simply replaced although can be pricey but can be do it yourself and some are attached or in the trans...do yourself a favor go to a auto parts store and purchase a repair manual for your vehicle, cost about $20 it will give you a good idea of your vehicle operation and do it yourself repairs..or take it to a transmission expert and let them test it..good luck..
