Which trans do you have??? The 4.7 has the 45RFE and the 4.0 has the 42RE. If you have the 42RE, try replacing the connector on the output speed sensor. I have seen intermittent problems with the connectors as they get older leading to falling into low gear and not shifting up

If your clutch is operating properly, the problem is inside the transmission, either shift forks or lost adjustment on rails. You may have damaged the brass synchro gears by not taking care of this right away. First though, make sure the clutch is releasing, check for internal bypassing ,leaks and slave cylinder operating properly (some slaves are part of throwout bearing and cannot be serviced unless trans is removed)

4 cyl. Auto trans. in limp mode. takin the shift solenoid out to re build it i fnd ripped wires. My question may seem should i re connect the first or cont with the shift solenoi

Unfortunately, you should have gotten the diagnostic codes for the transmission before messing with the shift solenoid. Most of those dodge shift issues are caused by input and output speed sensors.

The VSS sensor for speed veh, is at the tail of the transmission.
it measures tail shaft , main drive shaft speed, to do vehicle speeds.
there are many speed sensor on cars. some are used as a backup

Went on trip, drove a little over 500 miles to destination. When went from one freeway to another car seemed to go into a limp mode after slowing to bout 20- 25 mph. I reset by putting it in park turning...

PO456 is most times a gas cap or gasket,
to get an incorrect gear ratio the transmission has probably started to slip.

Change the fluid and filter first off in the transmission and use only atf+4 fluid and possibly the govenor pressure sensor, and change gas cap.

2008 Jeep Commander with 5.8l Hemi problems with instrument panel

Have shop run an OHM test on your transmission sensors -- then have them replaced and rerun the OHM test. -- it's more than likely an input speed sensor that is not working properly and telling the jeep to go into "limp mode" hence your speed isn't changing but it can't read the actual speed.

1998 jeep cherokee,has a sluggish pick up.

Jeeps have electric solenoids inside the transmission, (shift solenoids) I would have the jeep tested at the advance auto or autozone for codes if the check engine light is on; (its free) and go from there. sounds like the jeep may be in limp mode which chrysler created to protect the transmission. limp mode will not allow the jeep to shift all the way up to overdrive or shift all the way down to 1st shifting position. feels like it has to get going over25 to move well . AAMCO transmissions will diagnose your jeep for free in most states.
