Broken timing belt, bad distributor
lost spark? , does distributor rotor turn , cranking, ? if not timing belt snapped, this really is an Isuzu car with 1.6 L SOHC 4XE1 I4 1.6 L DOHC 4XE1 I4 1.8 L DOHC 4XF1 I4 one of these 3 engine. but the GSI had he larger 1.8 L 4XF1 DOHC replaced the 4XE1 in North America and produces 140 hp (104 kW) and 125 ft·lb (169 Nm) of torque. This engine was used in the 1992-1993 Geo Storm GSi , my guess is ita the DOHC 1.6L engine, and as such, has 4XE1-UW, non turbo. lost compression, no spark, no fueling or its flooding. if the belt did slip this engine grenades, its and interference engine. so if the rotor dont turn, it my be costly fix..
id be all over that dizzy rotor, and not crank engine until , that rotor turns and the cam is back in time. that is best plan... id even spin the crank by hand , with distributor cap off, looking at that rotor. but some times, the belt slips and rotor still turns, then the valves bend.

Same answer for all cars made 1920 to now.
never restarted ,ever ? gee , a little hint...?
1: lost engine compression hot, (gee forgot to do the 60k serviice/)
2: lost spark , yes, check spark at all 4 cyl. if bad check coil spark.
3: lost fuel or too much fuel called flooding.
one removes a spark plug, it drips of fuel , say all 4.
flooding.
crank motor at WOT, wide open throttle to clear flooding.
if the spark is good and the spark tips are dry, then try test fuel
if car starts and dies. then you lost injection.
easy huh> with the above you know exactly why it fails.
compression bad
spark
fueling.
1991 i think is TBI single injection engine, i can look it up but
no i wont. we need to do the tests first to get there.
found on road dead cranks fast but will no restart, i call this. 1: never doing tuneup, 2: EGR stuck open, 3: lost spark, 4: dizzy came loose, base clamp, 5:lost fueling, see next post and scottys great vid.

remove 2 spaces for joy. (cranks but dont start, hear him say those magic words)
found on road dead. (cranks but will not start.) a list.

SOURCE: Key wont turn
Sometimes you can jiggle the steering wheel left and right really hard while trying to turn the key. To change the ignition switch or tumblers you have to remove the steering wheel. Then remove the pressure plate and turn signal switch then you should see the ignition switch. There is usually a pin that you have to pull to release the switch. If I am missing a step it is due to my failing memory. Once you pull the steering wheel, just keep pulling until you get to the switch. Sorry for lack of instuction, I have fibromyalgia and can't remember much anymore. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
SOURCE: fuel pump installation 1990 geo gsi storm
the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. drop the fuel tank and unscrew the top of the fuel pump and replace the fuel pump
SOURCE: 1991 geo storm stalling at idle
maybe try replaceing the ingnition modual. that part can do a lot of weird things to these cars. its located inside the distributor cap, really easy to do. about $40 and 10 mins or less. sometimes as they start to fail they do odd things sometimes but not always
SOURCE: how to change fuel filter on a 91 geo storm gsi
the fuel filter is direclty below the brake booster mounted on the left side fender when your facing the car from front but be careful as to not twist and break the metal hoses on the fittings on the filter
SOURCE: 1991 Geo Storm Cranks But wont start
There are a lot of reasons why an engine might not start.
Basic first step diagnostics: Check for spark, check for gas then
figure out (usually by tracing backwards) why you are not getting it
(spark/gas).
1. Does it have gas? (Check the gauge, listen for the fuel pump etc. check the fuel pump fuse.)
2. Is the engine mechanically sound? (Check compression, open the oil
cap or remove the distributor cap and see if the camshaft is going up
and down etc.)
3. Check the engine service light. If it is on find out what the computer thinks is wrong and fix it.
4. Check to see if the ignition system is working. BTW don't just pull
a spark plug wire. This can wreck the electronics. I would pull a spark
plug and make sure it is properly grounded before checking for spark.
