Just bought my daughter a 2001 Honda Accord EX today. Started rough shifting from 1st to 2nd gear after we got home. Previous owner said she never had any problem like this. It has a four speed automatic transmission. Fluid level checks full and does not smell burnt and is still fairly bright red in color. Any suggestions?
It has a problem with the second gear drum it cracks and does not fully engauge the n shifts to 3rd ..many honda owners also learn the 8 bucks a quart is the only fluid to pour in a honda..but remember 3 qaurts per drain and fill the tranny holds 7q ....it will take a case to do a drain flush...a high pressure flush will ruin a automatic tranny with alot of miles or metal deposits floating around inside..DRAIN AND FILL 3 QUARTS AT A TIME NO GASKET NEEDED ITS BUILT AND DESIGNED LIKE A MANUAL TRANNY
possibilities are uncertain.. drain and flush drive with a light foot if its cluncking in 2nd gear alot your gonna be ona rebuild mission...if your shifting ok and staying under the high 3000s on the rpm and gettin into 3rd ok you might have a while... just saying IF its that second gear drum your car will throw a trouble code check eng ligth will glow... it will throw a mis shift code ...GET TO KNOW HONDA AUTO MATIC FLUID its the thinnest atf fluid around
if some one at a service station put in dexron over it before it may be sluggish..any friction modifiers or additives are dangerous to use in a honda...

Thanks for the advice!!! As it turns out my car still had extended warranty (only 7 days left) and Honda put a new tranny in my car at no charge to me. I was quite impressed to say the least. Anyone else who has this problem with an 2001-2003 Honda Accord with low miles might want to talk to their dealer about a recall on these models because of transmission failure.
2001 Honda Accord EX (V6) shifts rough from 1st to 2nd. I have 92,000 miles. Does anyone know if Honda would fix this or put in a new transmission (at their cost)?
Thanks
