I have 93 Subaru legacy with 2.2 broke timing belt. Replaced belt checked compression above 120 all 4, fuel and good spark. But can't get it to run. Have check timing marks multiple times thought it might be 180 out tried that still no good. Can the crank sensor cause it to fire count of sequence? Or any suggestions where to go next.

If your timing marks are on ... there is spark and fuel you may just have the firing order off ... When checking the firing order be mindful of the rotation of the engine.

Look up the code in our diagnostic trouble code chart. After repairs have been made use the code scanner to clear trouble codes and recheck system. B. Testing Fuel Pressure. Test for proper fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge. Connect the gauge to the test port on the fuel rail. Fuel pressure reading's very depending on the system your in our vehicle, but most throttle body injection cars (TBI) are between 13 psi and 17 psi. and most (DPI) direct port injection systems are between 40 psi and 55 psi. To find out your vehicle system fuel pressure consult arepair manual. If little fuel pressure is present the fuel pump needs to be replaced.

C. Test for Weak Ignition Spark
. A weak ignition system can be a sign of a failing ignition component. Remove spark plug wire and insert an extra spark plug into end of wire, attach spark plug to engine ground then crank engine. You should observe blue spark between spark plug gap. If a yellow spark is observed, your ignition coil is weak and needs to be replaced. If your spark is not consistent you may need a ignition module.

D. Inspect the Main ECM Relay
. If the ECM relay fails it will shut down the engine management system. This relay carries high amperage and is prone to failure. To test install new relay then test drive to recheck symptoms.

E. Testing the Ignition Switch
. This test requires a electronic test light. When vehicle dies test the power side (+) of your ignition coil with the key on, the test light should illuminate. If your test light is not lighting suspect your ignition switch or ignition relay. To trouble shoot this condition you will needwiring schematic for your car.

Water introduced through the fuel system. Drain tank and lines, refill, and add HEET.

If you find that the engine is dying at intersections and runs a rough and fluctuating idle at start up, and you also sometimes lose power even though the engine is running then it is probably your Air Flow Meter or sometimes reffered to as a Mass Airflow Sensor. Eventually, as the AFM deteriates further you will no longer be able to start the engine as the ECU can no longer get accurate flow readings to work out air fuel ratios and shuts it all down to stop damage occuring. 2 ways to fix, replace AFM or upgrade your ECU to one that is capable of running MAPs for air fuel ratio, rather than using a sensor. +reason it will not start is because compression is low caused by bent valves no doubt ,but check it out first as some engines are valve free like the opel corsa from around this year and the fiat punto but i do feel the compression is low ,remove all the plugs then crank it up and what compression you have ?

sounds like your timing may be off, or have a crank shaft postion sensor failing, when it cuts are you losing spark completely? do you have a fuel pressue gauge? whats the pressure? also you could try running it with the map sensor unplugged and see if the condition improves

Engine turns over but wont start? it has spark! and fuel!

Pull out # 1 spark plug and put back into plug wire, rest on motor block so that end of electrode is against metal. turn motor over and have a finger or compression gauge in # 1 cylinder, check to see if spark occur at same time as compression (compression will blow air past finger or raise gauge). When you say it has fuel do you mean gas tank has fuel? Are you sure fuel is getting to the cylinders? are plugs wet with fuel? Does it turn over but kinda thumps or backfire (Caugh)? Check the spark and compression first. if they don't happen at same time, the timing skipped or belt broke. if all is good pull plugs and inspect, could be flooded (WET) from fuel. either replace or spray with starting fluid and compressed air to dry them. spray starting fluid into air intake if starts then stalls, try again, if same thing happens then you have a fuel problem. try these suggestions first 1/2 hr time table, hopefully sucess, if not it sure indicates fuel.

Hi have changed timing belt after it broke as per marks

you may have bent some valves in the head or the belt has not been fitted correctly
Check engine compression and correct timing on engine

1997 legacy outback 2.5 will turn over but will not start. replaced timing belt, plugs, wires and crank sensor. has spark, new battery and fuel pump works. what's the next area to focus on.

****,squeeze, bang, Blow. That is what is required for a motor to operate. If you are getting fuel and current for the bang then the only thing left is the squeeze and blow which would be your compression. Have to make sure that the timing belt was timed properly to operate the valves to allow for compression. Hope this helps and have a good day.
