This V-6 has a very hard to find/hard to reach CKP - it is directly under the Distributor, about 4 inches below, inwards toward the Transaxle "bell". Almost dead-center in the back of the engine.
Your going to have to take the Air Filter and the air manifold that runs to the engine off. After that, take off the horn assembly to gain very, very limited access to wedge an extended ratchet into the bowels of the engine.
I think the same socket that undid the horn assembly fit the CKP nut. It takes 10 minutes to undo the bolt a couple ratchet clicks at a time, at least 15 to get the thing to wiggle out, probably 15 minutes to unconnect, reconnect, and snap back to the fram the wire harness, and at least another 10 minutes to ratchet the bolt back in click by click.
Now you know why they say shops charge $500 in to do this - I think they must take the entire engine out... Very painstaking job that requires patience and precision... but quite satisfying to finish it yourself.
Good luck and hope this helps,

SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE CAMSHAFT DAMAGE.
SOURCE: getting code P0340, No camshaft position sensor
Replace the cam sensor with a factory sensor. Aftermarket sensors can still trigger the light when nothing is wrong.

This could be related to a loose camshaft drive belt. If you have slack in the belt the camshaft will rebound on over run causing the P0340. It can also be a Crackshaft sensor problem too.(P0335) Hope this helps...

I can sympathize with you here because I am goin through the same thing. I'm not sure how much help I will be but I can tell you some of the things I have tried. I have replaced 1 of 4 of my oxygen sensors, camshaft sensor, mass air flow sensor, plugs, wires, dist. cap, fuel filter, air filter and had my catalytic converter cleaned out but not replaced. I have been trying to find out more info to see if a reflash of the computer will do anything. I was going about 95 when my light came on. It could very well be the computer itself. I would like to know if you get this figured out so you could tell me what it was. Please email me at [email protected] if you do. I will find this message if I get mine figured out so I can let you know. I've takin it to 3 different mechanics. The 3rd one was a Chevy dealership garage and even after hooking it up to their computer they said they still didnt know what the problem was but felt it was a fuel issue. I'm taking it to one more mechanic before I see if the dealership will reflash the computer or I might try and match one at a junk yard. There is a site that does it but I think its about 2 weeks waiting time. From what I've read so far the numbers on the computer have to match up so it keeps the correct firing order etc. Ive had 40,000 misfires on cyl 6 and 20,000 on cyl 4. Everything that could have been the cause I think I have replaced. Pretty much the only thing left is the computer. Sorry I didnt have a solid solution but I promise I will let you know when/if I get mine fixed.
