sec life ?????? SECURITY LIGHT ? anti-theft system problem .
The Pass-Key II® Theft Deterrent system prevents vehicle theft by disabling the starter motor and fuel system. If the Body Control Module (BCM) dose not identify the use of the correct ignition key to start the vehicle, the (BCM) will communicate a message to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which will disable the crank relay and fuel delivery to the engine.
When the (BCM) identifies the use of the correct ignition key (resistor pellet) to start the vehicle, the (BCM) will send a fuel enable and starter enable message to the (PCM) which will allow the vehicle to start.
It has to be programmed for sure if it can be used at all . Most GM vehicle do not allow used BCM'S . It will lock up with out proper vin number an anti-theft system information installed . Your best bet is call the dealer or an independent mobile technician in you area that does reprogramming . If I may ask what kind of problems were you having that makes you think the BCM needed to be replaced ? Was a Professional type scan tool used to see if the BCM was able to communicate ? Were power an grounds checked ? Fuse's etc... I see it a lot working at the dealer , not just GM vehicles either . Customer changed out module when it didn't need it.
If installing a replacement BCM, program the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .
An you need a subscription on GM web site , GM scan tool or a J-2534 Pass-through Device programming tool .
The procedures below are designed to set-up the body control module (BCM) correctly during BCM related service. Before you start, read these procedures carefully and completely. Important: The following procedures must be followed:
Programming the BCM
Programming Theft Deterrent System Components, if equipped with Passlock System
Relearn Restraints ID
If you don't understand what this guy talks about , you really need to take it to the dealer.
Important: Perform new BCM setup when you replace Body Control Module (BCM). Refer to Body Control Module (BCM) Programming/RPO Configuration .
Disconnect the battery ground (negative) cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
Remove the left instrument panel insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console.
Disconnect the BCM electrical connectors.
Push the BCM up and move the bottom of the BCM away from and out of the mounting bracket slot in order to remove the BCM.
During Body Control Module (BCM) related service, the procedures below are designated to set-up the BCM correctly. Before you start, read these procedures carefully and completely.
Setup New Body Control Module (BCM)
Tools Required
Scan Tool (Tech 2) GM factory scan tool !
Important:
• Read this procedure carefully and completely.
• The BCM will not function properly if the Setup New BCM procedure is not performed.
• Perform the Theft Deterrent Re-learn procedure after successfully finishing the Setup New BCM procedure. If the Theft Deterrent Re-learn procedure is not performed after a BCM replacement, the following conditions may occur:
- The vehicle will not be protected against theft by the PASSLOCK system.
- The engine will not crank nor start.
Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a dealer or a ASE certified repair shop who has proper tools .
It is actually infused in the Body Control Module. (BCM) You'll need to replace the BCM (Nice work there GM) Some bypass systems have been known to work as well.
must be in CANADA, land of DRL, mandates??????
why not say where , you live, as it's a where question.
first ask GM.
some GM are already , DRL ready here. in USA>
a 2013 will need programming to make this work. BCM changes.
of wanting non GM parts, or aftermarket you need an automotive electrical to put in these custom parts to make sure the BCM
in you car dont go nuts.. (can be real hard to do that 2013)
1billion cars on earth, no clue as to where you are. one earth.
U may have a problem with the BCM (body control module), it will happen again and becopme more frequent until it won't start. I suggest the next time ythis happens have the GM dealer test the BCM, it has a self testing feature to help ID these types of problems, it takes a GM electronic scanner to tap into the functions of the BCM..
the BCM needs to be programmed to operate the computer. a GM techII is now required to calibrate BCM to airbag, stereo, keyless entry, and control pcm data. This is required to make it all work. a gm service should have it done within an hour or less just call and ask them how much it would be to program new BCM. it might cost @$75 to $125 but it is needed, to allow the BCM to work properly.
You will need a Tech2 interface (GM Dealer Diagnostics Interface Unit) yo program the BCM to the ECM. The dealer will have to assist you with this as it requires a on-line link to set up the BCM software.
I AS A FORD TECH IN A LOCAL DEALER FOR 20 YEARS, THERE IS NO MODULE CALLED A BCM IN YOUR CAR, GM CALLS IT A BCM OR BODY CONTROL MODULE, THE GEM AND GM BCM SERVE THE SAME FUNCTION, AND YES THE DOOR LOCKS RUN THROUGH THE GEM ON FORD'S, AND YES IT MAY BE ON THE ELECTRONICS TRY IN THE TRUNK, IT IS THE WINDSTAR THAT HAS IT ABOVE THE FUSE BOX, SORRY, BEEN A FEW YEARS SINCE I RETIRED. OH GEM STANDS FOR GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE
