The longest lead goes 2 the furthest cylinder, as they get shorter move back towards the distributor!!! all the leads are different lenghts! check the plug lead on the coil at the shock mount as it gives problems!!

I have a bmw e30 325i it cranks but will not start so what can I do to fix it?

Fuel Pump - can you here the pump (usually under the right hand back seat) running with ignition on?
Fuel Delivery (injectors) - squirt some fuel (just a cap full) into the manifold.
Spark - pull a lead off a spark plug and use a spare spark plug resting on the exhaust manifold.
Crank sensor - Injectors won't inject fuel if the ECU thinks the engine isn't turning. Crank sensor is at the front right lower side and as it gets older, the wire gets brittle and breaks most of the time where it meets the hard end. The connector is under the throttle body and should read 500-600 ohms.

Hi I have a 2001 BMW 520i. It wont start. Stopped whilst driving felt like I had run out of fuel. I have had fuel pump changed fuel filter changed spark plugs coil leads. Pressure tested and fuel is there...

Never rule out sensors, based on the fact they sometimes
work or you have spark

You need an oscilloscope and look for milli second
misses and spikes

Use the scope on everything, fuel pump etc

Maybe something as simple as a fouled plug. Have you checked spark plugs? Wires? It's a process of elimination...

2 spark plugs not firing

check to see if your plugs need changing and then check your HT/LT leads on the plugs as they may be loose or water clogged somewhere or have a split wire that is just touching enabling it to fire a few times

Engine runs rough. Engine light on.

Try checking the spark plug, and the spark wires, if that doesnt clear things up then try replacing the roter under the distributor cap and check the cap for any corrosen
