Wonder if it brings a check engine light on? check your coil packs spark plugs/wires - could be a bad injector - could be a vacuum leak - could be an intake leak causing anifreeze to be introduced into the combustion chamber - same with the head gasket could be blown causing the same effect as an intake gasket most of the time if you check your spark plug they will tell you everything like oil on them would be black and oily if its been introduced to water/anifreeze could show signs

SOURCE: check engine light reset for 2001 ford escape

On any car 1996 or newer after a repair is made the memory in the computer has to be cleared the light will not go away by itself. The proper way to clear this is with a scanner or code reader but if you dont have any other way unhooking the battery will force the computer to loose all its memory and start all over and the light will go away. If the light returns after a few days you still have a problim.

Yes the 4 cylinder 2.0L engine uses a timing belt to turn the cam. According to the Ford Scheduled maintance guide for your year and engine, the belt needs to be changed at 120,000 miles.

I have a 2001 ford escape xlt 4 wheel drive. i had a diagnostic test done & it said it detected a misfire in cylinder 3. i am a do it yourselfer and am going to change all 6 spark plugs but the problem...

I am assuming that you have a V6 Engine because 1, 3 and 5 would be on the other side of 2, 4 and 6. A Striaght in line engine would have them all in a row.

But another way to locate your spark plugs would be to find your Spark plug wires and follow them to the spark plug.

Good Luck

Location of the bank 1 sensor 2 O2 sensor on a 2001 ford escape

B1 means the sensor is located on the same bank of the engine that has the #1 cylinder. B2 is located on the opposite bank.
S1 means the sensor is located BEFORE the catalytic converter
S2 means the sensor is located AFTER the catalytic converter

You didn't say which engine you have, so I've included the diagrams of both 4 cyl and 6 cyl so you can see the banks
