All fixed now ! Problem was oil leaking from bell housing when garage took everything apart and inspected the rear main & torque converter seals. Found also split boot on RH inner CV joint. All in all, a lot of time spent but all now ok.

Thanx Jo.

I smell burnt oil and the back top of the engine is wet but it is not use ing any oil

for sure engine leak oil (what about 1/2 on the road)
and for sure if said leak , travels by wind or gravity, lands on the
exhaust PARTS, it will smoke and burn.
fix leak, stop burn.

My mazda 626 has a strong potent smell coming from the exhaust

You don't mention what that smell is reminiscent of?

You don't mention the colour of the "smoke" and you didn't say whether the engine is petrol or diesel?

You don't mention whether the road behaviour/performance is normal?

White smoke is almost always steam or in the case of a diesel it could be an unburned fuel mist, grey/black is excess fuel and blue or grey/blue is burning oil.

Some steam is fairly normal until the engine and exhaust system is hot but excessive amounts could be one symptom of head gasket trouble. If the engine is drinking coolant and sending it through the exhaust as steam it will sometimes smell spicy.

Burning oil smells a bit like burned eggs in the frying pan.

If the car hasn't ultra-low sulphur oil and fuel the catalytic converter will convert sulphur traces into hydrogen sulphide - the bad egg gas...

97 kia sephia smokes when first starts, smells like exhaust smoke

Black smoke is fuel.
Blue is oil.
White is coolant / water.

Fuel is caused by timing and cold start system and requires some discussion to clarify.

Oil burning only on start is caused by failing rings on your cylinders. Oil then enters the combustion chambers and burns when you start the engine. If it continues to burn when running in particular when you accelerate it will also indicate ring/cylinder failure. It can also be from a failing head gasket where oil travels from the lubrication system into the combustion chamber. Some of the anti smoke additives available at the auto supply store do help.

I doubt you are seeing white as you say is smells like exhaust. White is coolant in the combustion chamber or exhaust system.

Hope this helps you.

After driving for around 30 minutes, the brake

That sounds like the "Porportioning valve" is defective.
You may want to go to your local library and check out a Chilton's, or some other repair manual for the "how to" to fix yourself or take it to a tech you can trust.

I have a '97 F150 4.6 and it uses oil. I can't see it or smell it but the oil level drops between changes. Where is it going? Do I need to change oil types? I currently use 10W-30, every 3,000 miles...

use slightly thicker oil,it unfortunately may be burning oil, sometimes high oil cpnsumtion is due to engine wear, especially if its not leaking if it uses under 1 litre, between services thats ok but if its using 1.5 to 2 litres thats an issue

Engine light on, heavy smoke and engine burning smell (Audi 1.8T)

First off, how the Hell did they issue a DOT Cetificate, if the Emissions are known to be off the clock. Without causing stress, do you have, or can obtain the Emission Test Result Print Out from the Testing Station test Equipment. This is something they cannot refuse. DO NOT AUTHORISE ANY REPAIRS Come back TO ME with your story.

2001 Volvo S40 1.9T - oil leaking into turbo

It's very common for the turbo return line seal to leak. That is what I would check first, when it leaks, it will spray oil all over the turbo lines and the rear of the engine.

Turbo maintenance

If you let the car idle when you stop driving it gives the car time to recirulate fresh oil through turbo bearing , since the turbo gets extremely hot from the exhaust side (and spins at very high speeds) you really should also run full synthetic oil on turbo cars to extend turbo life.regular motor oil tends to burn and carbon up in turbo bearing and causes premature turbo failure .

I bought a Subaru Impreza STI 2009 model .. What kind of the oil used in this car and is it Syntihtic oil?

i have an 05 sti. its the same motor as the 09. you definitley want to use a high quality full synthetic oil 5w-30. check the level often because it is normal for this car to burn a little oil do to the turbo. especially if you start making performance mods.
