Foul smell when ecxellerating

Hello, My Toyota 4Runner while driving suddenly seem to raddle in low speed and there was a foul sulfur smell. The engine light came on an turned after 15 min off. The car drove okay going downhill and on a horizontal road but when stopping and starting to drive especailly uphill it would have a hard time to exellerate and had a strong smell. Best, Michaela

This is very indicative of clogged catalytic converters,
i would also replace the 02 sensor.

What would be causing what sulfur smelling exhaust smoke?

The Smell is-- Sulfur Dioxide-- from an over heated
Exhaust Converter

Yes-- it will be ruined soon

White Smoke all the time, could be a head gasket

It could also be-- lots of fuel-- that is overheating the converter

Have to look at fuel trim on scan tool data

Took my 2003 Toyota 4runner in because engine light was coming on intermittently. That has happened before. Also complained of sulpher smell twice. the first time car was 6moths old...they said changed...

No it is not under emissions warranty the year is what is the factor, it is 7 years or 70,000 mile whichever comes first. You need the check engine fault code read and that fixed first, it is most likely the cause of the smell from the catalytic converter which is caused by a overly rich fuel air mixture. The fact you smelled the sulfur indicates the Cat is working. I was a certified repair and inspection technician for the Calif smog control program for 35 years.

Sounds like you might have a animal or other object **** in your tail pipe or a bad, broke down catalytic converter.... If it smells like sulfur, it the converter....

Today suddenly my 4runner 98 V6 started to rattle in a slow gear and when going uphill the car had a sulfur smell but only when pushing it uphill the engine light came on but turned off after 10 minutes...

Take it into your mechanic ASAP before you throw a rod and destroy your engine, check oil level also...DO NOT DRIVE IT ANYMORE or you may be looking for another car soon.

Engine starts but car doesn't seem to want to move

Could be. Is the trans fluid dark or does it smell burnt? Clutchs could be done also.

2006 Toyota 4Runner Sulfur smell

I noticed going from a Higher Grade gasoline as well as making sure I change my motor oil on a regular basis (3,000-5,000 mi)to solve this problem. When the car isn't driven at a high RPM for a while, and you go to a quick acceleration it causes this smell.
