It will be visible by looking at the front of the cluster. use a flashlight, and you should be able to see a "shadow affect" , or the outline of the "Check Engine Light" "Oil" "Low Fuel" etc. for all of the dash lights.

SOURCE: failed smog cause check engine light

I can tell you for sure that all US models of the Ford Ranger came with a emission system that incorporated a MIL or check eng light, go to the dealer and have them run your VIN on the Ford on line information service, that will give you the engine Calibration of the emission system, you can then find out what emission system was used, export or US.

SOURCE: 99 Ford Escort ZX2 Speedometer/Odometer doesn't work

I'm sorry, I have to ask, this is an automatic right? That out of the way, Does the trans shift different when you drove it with the Vss unplugged when you had the ohm meter on it? 8.5 volts? Something sounds wrong here. I'll have to look up the wiring diagram before I can say thats a bad reading but it should be battery voltage (14 volts running) or 5 volts?

Why is my 99 Ford Ranger dying when I step on the pedal?

Is the check engine light on when the engine is running ?
You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel problem or electrical problem.
Have you checked fuel pressure yet ?

I have a 2006 Ford Ranger Sport Extented Cab. Emission System Light comes on, I had it checked it read fuel cap, so I repaced it.Went off ,& now back on .Unplu the Battery, went now bac on

You will have to have the codes read again. There may be another problem. If it is the same code , small leak. Then the evap system needs to be checked. Evap consists of the cap, gas tank, the seal for the sending unit, Charcoal canister, hoses running from the tank to the engine, purge and vents solenoids and their seals.

1981 ford bronco failed emissions twice

Look behind the motor, next to the firewall. There's a vacuum check valve that keeps the air gulp pump from pressurizing the crankcase. Mine was shot; had the same symtoms. Also, make sure that the EGR valve is closing at low idle.

You don't need an engine light to check the codes. First, do a KOEO (key on, engine off), but, let me tell you, when this happened to me (1986 Full size with 302 EFI, multiport injection) NOTHING showed up. No one, not Ford, not emission specialists, nada, knew the vacuum check valve existed.

By the way; are you getting motor oil in the air filter housing?

200 Ranger auto Trans down shifts when cruising, with very slight

since the trans is electronically controlled the check engine light may very well be the key to the problem, go to any Kragen auto or Autozone and ask for a trouble code test, it is free.
