I have a Toyota Matrix XR 2004 with automatic transmision (it is a canadian car). Since 3 years my cruise control is intermittent. The description of the problem is very simple : I could be driving on the highway at a cruising speed set to 100 kmh. Suddenly the cruising speed control will stop and then the speed will start decresing until I push back on the gaz pedal and set back the control speed to 100 kmh. At the moment the problem start, I will have to deal with it until I arrive at destination. Then I could be using my cruise control for two weeks without a problem. My car is still under extended warranty but the dealer will not do anything because it is an intermittent problem. Help me please. I am an electronic technologue and also I have a certificate in programming and system development. This means that I should be able to understand al your comments, suggestions and analyse that you could ask me to do. Regards, Normand Girard Thank you very much. P.S. : Please exuse-me for my writing in english

2008 Toyota Matrix XR - Control Arms.

Somewhere like Autozone has them for about $200 for the pair. Depends on the shop for labor, and they may want to do an alignment after, which could be another $60 or so. I would check a few different shops to get an idea.

Changing spark plugs on 2004 matrix, is it something i can do at home or do i need more technical know how. if i can please explain the proceedure. thanks

Hi, the 2004 Toyota Matrix requires Iridium spark plugs, which retails for about $12 at the dealership, and it should not need to be changed until 120,000 miles.
To change the spark plug, remove the black cove off the top and they will be right there. You will probably need atleast an 8" extender to get to them becasue they don't have Spark Plug wires atleast on the 2zz-ge aka XRS Motor I do Not Know aboout The 1zz-fe AKA Matrix, XR, AWD

Engine Check Light on

Take it to a shop and have it scanned and see what the problem is. Then you will get an estimate for the repair or decide to try it yourself.

1999 toyota avalon horn works intermitely

I would suggest to you to have the spiral cable (or 'clockspring') replaced. This is the electrical unit that transfers power to the air bag, the horn and the cruise control.

It is located right under the seering wheel.

Your description of the issue indicates to me that your spiral cable is loose, and making intermittant contact. If the vehicle had an air-bag deployment, this cable-device should have been changed.

When do i need to change my 2004 Toyota matrix XR struts? these are the specs on the front and rear struts MacPherson Strut Torsion Beam (Double Wishbone-4WD)

There isn't really a replacement interval for struts however if you notice that the ride is a lot more bouncy then it used to be or notice oil leaking from them it's time to replace. For a quick crude but effective test, using the palm of your hands push down on a corner of the vehicle a few times to get it bouncing up and down. If once you release it it continues to bounce for more then 2 or 3 times it might be time to replace the struts.

Do i need to drop the steering knuckle and if so do i need to compress the coil spring?2004 Toyota Matrix xr

no..but you will need to remove the strut from the vehicle which requires removing both large bolt connectors from the upper mounting arm of the knuckle for the strut...also remove the 3 upper mounting nuts in the engine compartment tower. Strut assembly then will so into a special press that compresses the spring in order to dis-assemble.
