3.7L Engines
Each individual spark plug is located under each ignition coil. Each individual ignition coil must be removed to gain access to each spark plug. Refer to Ignition Coil Removal/Installation. Prior to removing spark plug, spray compressed air around base of ignition coil at cylinder head. This will help prevent foreign material from entering combustion chamber.

  1. Remove spark plug from cylinder head using a quality socket with a rubber or foam insert.
  2. Inspect spark plug condition.
To install:
  1. Start the spark plug into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross threading.
  2. Before installing coil(s), check condition of coil o-ring and replace as necessary. To aid in coil installation, apply silicone to coil o-ring.
  3. Tighten spark plugs to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.) torque.
  4. Install ignition coil(s). Refer to Ignition Coil Removal/Installation.

Testimonial: "thasnks again will have to have it done have a nice day."

Ignition Coil Print Removal & Installation Certain coils may require removal of the throttle body air intake tube or intake box for access. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Detach the electrical connector from the coil by pushing downward on the release lock on top of the connector and pulling the connector from the coil. Clean the area at the base of each coil with compressed air. Remove the coil mounting nut. Pull the coil up with a slight twisting action and remove it from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal. Smear the coil O-ring with silicone grease. Tighten the mounting nut to 70 inch lbs. (8 Nm). Connect the wiring.

Testing The coil(s) can be checked with an ohmmeter. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the coil from the engine. Primary winding resistance (across the low tension terminals) should be 0.6-0.9 ohms. Secondary winding resistance (across the spark plug lead and one of the low tension terminals) should be 6-9K ohms. Replace any coil not within specification.

Truck is not firing on 3 cylinders yet it runs.. Runs really rough, back fires, under powered.. Plugs are Wet, Firing order is correct. New Spark plug cables. Don't know that is wrong! Please Help

Check for spark at the plug ( may have coil problem).
If spark is good then do a compression check. Pressure shouldn't be less than 75% of known good cylinders.
