I have a 2003 dodge ram 1500 5.7l hemi.
I tried to start it last night, but the key would not turn in the ignition, it goes in but, but it wont turn at all, its like it is locked. Steering wheel is not locked. This has happened once before, and i got it to turn and start that time by wiggling it for like 5 minutes, and turning steering wheel as hard as i could, but that didnt work this time. The check enginge light is on, so i took it to autozone last week and they said its the ignition coil, so im guessing that is whats causing this. How can i fix this???. do i need to just change the ignition coil right now , will that fix it, anything else i can do?
My father has the same problem with his 2001 Chrysler Sebring, the key will go into the ignition switch but wont turn. Called the dealer and seems the tumblers inside the ignition have gotten stuck, the solution... put the key in the ignition and tap it gently with a hammer (plastic tip if you have it) and it worked fine. Not sure what the guys at Autozone are pull but on a Ram 5.7 Hemi there are individual coils, not one, I should know I also have a 2003 Ram 1500 and have changed the plugs (not fun)... I have a code scanner (Hypertec) and when I've gotten a check engine light I check it with the scanner. Turned out mine had a problem with the air sensor in the intake. $15 part fixed the problems. Good Luck.
SOURCE: how do i change the power steering pressure switch
From the Factory Service Manual, you can get one relatively cheap from www.promanuals.net. Here is a link to your 2004 Dodge Ram Service Manual.
The power steering pressure switch is installed in
the power steering high-pressure hose (Fig. 9).
(1) Disconnect electrical connector from power
steering pressure switch.
(2) Place a small container or shop towel beneath
switch to collect any excess fluid.
(3) Remove switch. Use back-up wrench on power
steering line to prevent line bending.

I also have a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 hemi-Just today i went out to start the truck and could not turn the key in unlock or lock. So after an hour or so I looked it up here and did used my hand and hit the key into the igntion and i was able to turn the key. Now as i test it each time i turn it off and leave the key in I can turn it-However once i take the key out and put it back in i have to bang the key again into the ignition to get it to turn. What should i start doing to figure this out. Thanks, Bill
