This has happened now on several occasions...I'm driving down the road (any speed really, as it's happened at 75 mph on the highway and 35mph in town) and suddenly the car starts decelerating and pushing the gas pedal is useless. The engine is still running, radio, a/c, lights, etc. still work. The rpm and speedometer needles start bouncing up and down and the car pulses fairly rhythmically. A few times a battery light has also come on. Sometimes, the car kicks back in and the gas pedal allows me to accelerate and the warning lights go off. Sometimes, the car just keeps pulsing until I can get pulled over and restart the car. Sometimes, that's all it takes, but this last time when it happened, the car wouldn't restart--dead battery. Dealer has already charged me $800 to fix something on the computer that they thought could be causing these symptoms. (They've not been able to reproduce the symptoms) I've been stranded on the road 2 times since the pricey fix and the same problem keeps occurring. Help! What could be going on?

i believe your over charging ie; voltage regulator bad. should only have between 12-14.5 volts max when testing at bat with volt meter

Just trowing some suggestions out there, but, I would check the idle air control valve (solenoid) or the throttle position sensor. If they check out then my last guess would be the map sensor or the vaccuum to the map sensor. Hope I was able to help. Best wishes.

the problem is the stater i have been having the same problem. To check next time this happens have someone turning the key to start the car and someone tapping on the starter with a hammer form the top part of the car. The car will then start. The starter is located below the oil filter.

Sounds like a faulty body control module, or the forward control module. Possibly the cluster is going bad. Is it still under warranty? Take it to the dealer, which you may have to do anyway.
