Car is sluggish and orange upshift light is blinking

On these cars, this is usually a transaxle speed sensor problem. On these transaxles, there are sensors to detect the input speed and the output speed. If they don't correlate then the light will flash.

Pull any DTCs via a scan tool and post them here. I will be more than happy to decipher them.

most european cars only give colored lights when maintenance is due or a malfunction is detected. since the car is running "sluggish", may want to get a fualt code pulled from the ECM to help find the problem.

if the light is blinking then the computer has detected an emission problem and you should have it checked out to find out why the light is blinking.this should be covered under the emissions warranty if its an emissions problem.either way driving it like this you will cause more problems then necessary.

an orange light with a tap symbol would usually be a low water warning for the cooling system.
check the water level in the cooling system and refill checking for leaks.
if a car with low water becomes sluggish it is not normally a good sign as it can mean that the engine is overheating and becoming too tight.
this needs to be checked properly before you try driving any distance, especially with kids.
book it in for a pressure test on the cooling system asap.

does it blink with a rythem?
If it comes on when you get up to a hgiher rpm, it just means it's time to upshift.

check the socket the bulb goes into

check tps sensor (throttle position sensor in backside of the throttle cable) and map sensor (manifold absolute pressure on front little 1 inch sensor with vacuum line) make sure there plugged in. the ecm (engine control module driver side inner fender) and tcm (transmission control module under dash) both need the data to know when to upshift and increase fuel/air. Otherwise the computer runs default values and guesses off of other sensors giving poor performance. also disconnect battery for 15 min. usually resets aveo service lights if you dont have a scanner.

Try changing the fuel filter. Many times fuel problems can be mistaken for transmission problems because the motor is starving for gas.

This sounds like your "check engine" light. Best bet is to take it to your mechanic where they should have the right diagnostic tools to find where the problem is. - Neil
