Mazda 3 with P2177 fault code. I installed a bluetooth ODB II sensor and monitored the Fuel Trim Bank1 Sensor 1 & 2. Sensor 1 reports a low single digit value that varies, but Sensor 2 reports a large constant value of 89. Does this indicate a bad O2 sensor or what exactly?

Fuel Air Ratio is incorrect due to failing sensors or broken exhaust. Sensor 1 bank 1 is actually the Fuel/Air Sensors not an O2 sensor. Your is reporting that the ratio is too rich so it is adding less fuel. Whilst this is good for fuel economy, it causes an overheat situation which can damage the piston or burn the valves. I had the same situation in my Lexus, but it was reporting too lean. After the fuel/air sensor was replaced, it reported too lean 100 yards down the road. I cleared that code and all was fine. The engine was burning off carbon die to the rich fuel situation. I recommend this, or a cheap scanner
