SOURCE: Does my Mustang have a low gear?

the C4 automatic transmission is a 3 speed transmission, it shifts by hydraulic pressure controlled by a governor and actuators, I would check your linkage to see that it is hooked up correctly to allow movement through all range selections, disconnect the linkage at the trans and see how many detents you feel while moving the lever back and forth, make sure to chock your vehicle as moving the lever from Park may cause the car to move. Let me know what you find, hope this helps

SOURCE: looking for the engine serial number location on

Here is Half an answer!! The engine serial number is located on the top surface of the engine block... near the crankcase breather pipe, front-left side of the car.
Except for the information that is provided on the vehicle certification label, I am not aware of "matching numbers" on a 6 cylinder Mustang...

SOURCE: how remove 1966 Ford Mustang 200 cu.in 6-cyl. crankshaft pulley

Hi,
You can remove that center bolt easily with an impact gun. It has normal threads on it. An impact gun will prove to be an affordable tool that you will use again. You can get an electric one from Harbor Freight. They make the job of removing tough bolts much easier. If the engine is in the car, you might not have enough room. You can use a ratchet and if the engine is turning, you can hold the pulley with another tool sold at Harbor Freight called a rubber strap wrench.

Testimonial: "Will report again when the job is done. Thanks for this info: 1) Center bolt is normal thread 2) Tools can be pruchased at Harbor Freight"

SOURCE: firing order for 1966 ford mustang 200 cubic inch

The engine is a 200 CID straight six, the firing order is 153624...

Just pop the distributor cap and have someone crank the engine while you watch the rotor.

How I can determine which hole in the distributor is assigned to the #1 plug wire.
Pull the number one plug. Turn the engine over slowly (with a wrench) while holding your finger over the plug hole. When the air builds (a lot of) pressure you are coming up to the number one spot on the distributor. (the rotor will point to the location of the #1 hole in the distributor.)

Quick methods to disable the engine I have seen people do on the classics:
Close the points by loosening the set screw
Pull the rotor cap
Connect a wire from the coil to ground. (effectively closes the points. Can damage the coil if key is left on.)
Pull the main ignition wire
And there are some tricks at the starter solonoid involving the ballast resistor bypass that is used to provide a hotter spark while cranking. (Two little wires at the starter solonoid - one is crank the other is the ballast bypass.)

Might give those a look-see. Best of luck (rememeber rated this help).

Hi, how do i figure out what the numbers in the engine bay of my 66 notch back represent? thanks

They are many numbers that represent many things, from paint codes to where the vehicle was manufactured. This is called your "Data Plate"

Here is what it will look like on a Mustang.

I hope this helps.

Headliner install in 66 mustang coupe

Remove windshield and rear window to do it properly. Headliner is actually crimped in between window gaskets and roof edge. Not a job for the faint at heart. If you don't know the string trick to get your gaskets in place you'll be working on it this time next year. Look on CJ Pony parts web site. They used to have a good tech article on headliner replacement. Hope this helps...

1966 mustang coupe motor 289,4 barrel carb.automatic trans. makes a noise when put in reverse,is this normal?

What kind of noise? A clunk, chatter, whir, grinding, or what? If it's a clunk, you may have a worn U-joint. Test by holding brake on and change between drive and reverse and back. If you hear a "clunk" when the tranny engages, it's probably a worn U-joint. Not a hard repair to do in the driveway. Always change BOTH front and rear U-joints - if one's worn, so's the other.
