    yes but with 122,000 miles on it and doing it yourself it needed new injectors anyway and a new fuel pump and filter so i do not feel so bad....but i would like to know what else it could be...other pros said it may be a wire problem in the harness...pull and check all connections....what do you think...

  • lbecker478 Apr 17, 2009

    would the pcm show a code that says pcm problem....

  • lbecker478 Apr 17, 2009

    why would the pcm only affect number 1 cylinder

  • Marvin
    Marvin May 11, 2010

    The PCM will not show a fault for the PCM, only the inputs to it Do u understand the function of the PCM and how it controls the fuel injectors??

  • Marvin
    Marvin May 11, 2010

    the problem may be the PCM

  • Marvin
    Marvin May 11, 2010

    the code does always mean the problem is with the injector, only that a fault is present the injector control circuit. guessing is very expensive isn't it.

02 DOGE DAKOTA P0202 CODE

P0202
Trouble Code: P0202 (4.7L V8 VIN N Auto)
INJECTOR #2 CONTROL CIRCUIT the coil inside the injector 2 is bad. the PC fails so see the inductive EMF kick back from the coil. (oem injectors only)
the wires to injector 2 are bad
the PCM is bad.
the SM states (*and is correct)

  • INTERMITTENT CONDITION
  • ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT
  • FUEL INJECTOR bad.. or wrong one used, non OEM fail easy.
  • FUEL INJECTOR DRIVER CIRCUIT OPEN
  • FUEL INJECTOR DRIVER CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND
  • PCM
the PCM is tuned to use only OEM injectors,.
THE PCM is very smart in this regard, it works kinda like RADAr
THE PCM SENDS A PULSE TO THE INJECTOR AND IT SIGNAL BOUNCES BACK, IF this signal is weak the injector is dead or wrong one there. use OEM injectors if SAVVY to this magic,

or swap say injector 1 and 2,
if injector 1 fails now not 2 then the injector in 1 is bad, or wrong kind.
easy no ? swaps

Could a bad alternator cause the error code P2146 on my dodge cummins 5.9?

The alternator isn't a possible cause as it is basically there to charge the battery when the engine is running. The resistance reading you have is low so shouldn't be an issue.
The codes mean :-

P0201 = Injector 1 - circuit malfunction.
P0202 = Injector 2 - circuit malfunction.
P2146 = Fuel Injector Group "A" Supply Voltage Circuit/Open.

This could be an issue with the actual injectors. Injectors are commonly numbered to match the cylinder they feed fuel to so you have a possible problem with the injectors on cylinders 1 and 2. If they need replacing I would seriously recommend getting a good diesel mechanic to do it. Some engines use a pressurised fuel injection system running at a PSI powerful enough to blast fingers off.

My 1998 Dodge Intrepid is starting & then stalling only after a few seconds. The engine light came on, & the code was P1391. Any ideas?

That code is indicating an intermittant crank shaft or cam shaft sensor fault. Because the engine is starting then stalling, check to see if you have spark after the stall. If spark is still present, you are probobley looking at a cam sensor circuit issue. The cam sensor controls the fuel injector pulse. If the cam sensor fails on a chrysler product, the fuel injectors will not function.

This 1999 dodge 1500 5.9l will start and run fine till about 1500 RPM and then misfires and pings severely. [ CHRYSLER ] Record1 -> 1998~2003 -> PCM -> ECU Information Module of year: ...

Hello.. looks like you are getting good fuel delivery. Is the fuel curve mixture on the scanner in specs? How is the timing, the timing chains on these engines will stretch and throw the timing off causing a ping and missfire -- a weak valve spring is something to consider. Also, the PCM may be faulty. I hope this helps.
