You have a problem in the Ignition switch. The switch is wore out. $600.00 to replace! NOT!!!!! The ignition is not sensing the ignition key resistor. To fix this , you will need to sacrifice a key but it is a simple fix to bypass the security system. Remove the steraring colum cover locate the 2 white wires coming down from the ignition switch. Cut them. Solder the wires , From the firewall, onto the resistor in the key. Securley place some shrink tubbe over that. Wire tie this up under the dash securly. You have just bypassed the security system! You can now start your car with a key made by the local hardware. I am going on 2 years with this fix!

Buick century 3.1 2000 security light staying on car wont crank what can that be

It's the anti-theft system . (SECURITY ) Keeps vehicle from being stolen !
Important: If the wrong ignition key is used in an attempt to start the vehicle, a Data Trouble Code (DTC) will be set and the Body Control Module (BCM) will not send a fuel enable or starter enable message to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) for three minutes even if the correct ignition is used.
The Pass-Key II?® Theft Deterrent system prevents vehicle theft by disabling the starter motor and fuel system. If the Body Control Module (BCM) dose not identify the use of the correct ignition key to start the vehicle, the (BCM) will communicate a message to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) which will disable the crank relay and fuel delivery to the engine.
When the (BCM) identifies the use of the correct ignition key (resistor pellet) to start the vehicle, the (BCM) will send a fuel enable and starter enable message to the (PCM) which will allow the vehicle to start.
Your best bet would be have it towed to a qualified repair shop !

1998 cadillac deville wont start cause starting disable remove key message shows up. What can i do to to fix it

First try another key if you have one.
If that doesn't work then remove the negative wire, wait a few minutes, reconnect and try.
If that doesn't work then you might have broken cable to the ignition switch.

Engine wont start with key can jump at starter it will crank but only run a few seconds.

Security system is activated, turn the car on, don't try to start it, make sure all other things are off. let it set for ten minutes, then turn it off, don't remove the key. Do this three times, on the third time turn it off then try to start the car. If you can't turn the lights off you will need to put a charger on the battery, because it will drain and not start your car.

In my 2000 chevy camaro my security light is on and my car wont start what process do i need to do to get it running?

Your vehicle is equipped with the PASS-Key II (Personalized Automotive Security System) theft-deterrent system.
PASS-Key II is a passive theft-deterrent system. It works when you insert or remove the key from the ignition.
PASS-Key II uses a resistor pellet in the ignition key that matches a decoder in your vehicle. When the PASS-Key II system senses that someone is using the wrong key, it shuts down the vehicle's starter and fuel systems. For about three minutes, the starter won't
work and fuel won't go to the engine. If someone tries to start your vehicle again or uses another key during this time, the vehicle will not start. This discourages someone from randomly trying different keys with different resistor pellets in an attempt to make a match.

The ignition key must be clean and dry before it's inserted in the ignition or the engine may not start. If the engine does not start and the SECURITY light stays on when you try to start the vehicle, the key may be dirty or wet. Turn the ignition off.

Clean and dry the key. Wait about three minutes and try again. The SECURITY light may remain on during this time. If the starter still won't work, and the key appears to be clean and dry, wait about three minutes and try another ignition key. At this time, you may also want to check the fuses (see "Fuses and Circuit Breakers" in the Index). If the starter won't work with the other key, your vehicle needs service. If your vehicle does start, the first ignition key may be faulty. See your dealer or a locksmith who can service the PASS-Key II.

If you accidentally use a key that has a damaged or missing resistor pellet, the starter won't work. The SECURITY light will flash. But you don't have to wait three minutes before trying another ignition key.

See your dealer or a locksmith who can service the PASS-Key II to have a new key made.

If you're ever driving and the SECURITY light comes on and stays on, you will be able to restart your engine if you turn it off. Your PASS-Key II system, however, is not working properly and must be serviced by your dealer. Your vehicle is not protected by the PASS-Key II system. If you lose or damage a PASS-Key II ignition key, see your dealer or a locksmith who can service PASS-Key II to have a new key made. In an emergency, call the Chevrolet Roadside Assistance Center at 1-800-CHEV-USA or 1-800-243-8872 (In Canada call 1-800-268-6800).

I turn key to on. car won't start. Dashboard display shows wait three minutes. I wait three minutes and the car starts

sounds like your problem is with the cars alarm system. this message will come up after the alert is tripped and the key is put in the ignition switch to start the car.

How do you star a 98 chavy malibu with tha anti theft light on

Here is what you do. make sure the battery is fully charged cause you dont want it to go dead during this process or it wont work. step down on your parking brake pedal and leave it down. this will keep the headlights off during the process so the battery wont go dead. turn the ignition key like you were going to start the car then leave the key in the on position. you have to leave the key in the on position for ten minutes. during the ten minutes you will see the anti theft or security light flashing or the display in the instrument cluster. when the ten minutes are up the security light will go out. once the light goes out attempt to start the car. if it doesnt start turn the key all the way back to the off position count to three then attempt to start the car then leave the key in the on position another ten minutes till the light stops flashing again. sometimes it takes up to three ten minute cycles to reset the antitheft system. so basically you do the same thing three times leaving the key in the on position for ten minutes each time so it will take approximately thirty minutes. sometimes it will work on the first try though.

Is there a quick fix to get me home

Move the key in and out of the lock cylinder over and over to clean the contacts. Then wait the three minutes. Don't try to start it before the three min is up or the three min. timer will start over.
